Default Freeview sound problems

AFAIK shortly before Christmas I began to notice occasional dropouts
in Freeview sound. Suspected it might be my equipment. Over New Year
at a friends house 250 miles away I also became away of the odd
dropout.
In my neighbours house the other night he noticed one and added, 'Did
you hear that? This has happened a lot recently.'

Yesyerday a friend rang me from Teesside and totally out of the blue
just happened to mention that he'd noticed digital sound dropping -
'I'm sure it never used to happen', he added.

These dropouts are well under a second and therefore mainly noticable
during music. The picture seems unaffected. Any comments - is it
recent?

ITV channels only? Has the equipment got audio description?
There have been some long running problems with the AD local channel
triggering the auto mute used when the ad is sent on some channels. the itv
say, turn off the ad if its not in use. I say, fix your crappy audio
circuit, but these problems come and go still, ver three years after it
started.

Of course it could be you are hearing something else, but it still irks
me...

Yes, I've had it on certain channels only. Other channels are completely
unaffected. As you say it is most noticeable when music is being played.
Also had skipping/freezing necessitating a restart, again on certain
channels only, as has a friend living in a different transmitter area. The
channels which are affected on his setup are completely different to the
ones affected on mine.

Kim, what you describe is probably just interference. A nearby thermostat
sparking or something and causing your receiver to fail to recover a block
or two of data.

I've had these on occasion (Tacolneston) usually affecting one channel
only for a period of time. I should check other channels on the same
mux but since most of my viewing is done via Topfield by the time I
notice the problem it's over.

I suspect engineering work, external factors like interference seem to
be brief and hit all channels/muxes.
