Default Samsung Freeview DVD Recorder DVD-SH893M

Hi
I'm looking into getting a Freeview Recorder

There seems to be dozens of 'reconditioned' Samsung DVD-SH893M units on ebay
going cheap - so many in fact that I'm suspicious - is there something wrong
with them?

Anyone have 1 - have a view?

A quick google shows reviews that are either 1 star or
4/5, with more reviewers hating it than loving it.
These ebay ones may be customer returns with no fault.
Beta software syndrome may have been a factor, but
it seems it won't allow recording to start while
you're watching something (unless that has been
fixed). If "reconditioned" means it has the latest
software, then it might be worth a punt.

I seem to recall a humorous piece on the impenetrable instruction manual
meant that they were returned as faulty and the assistants could not work
them either.

I had to chuckle at something Sandy Toksvig said on TV the other evening,
'if you want to keep something secret from a man on your computer', simply
put it into a folder and label it 'Instruction Manual' you can then be
absolutely certain that it will never ever be looked at..
