We've recently got Telewest^HBlueyonder^HVirgin installed, and we don't
tend to watch much of a variety of channels so can't confirm whether it's all-or-one with this issue, but FX seems to be suffering from regular picture freezes for 3-5 seconds, both during shows and adverts. Anyone else seeing this, or is it time to call them back out ? TIA :-) |

do you have the VM newsgroups set up? there are support groups for
these things, as well as groups for customers. try reporting the possible fault in virginmedia.support.tv and there may be folks aware of the problem in virginmedia.discussion.tv I use eternal-september (formerly motzarella) for usenet, I didn't know VM bothered with newsgroups - they certainly didn't when I used them ~10 years or so ago :-} There's a couple of them set up via that, but not the vm.support.tv :-( |

Call them out, they'll stick a meter on the end of your cable Steve Terry -- Get a free Three 3pay Sim with £2 bonus after £10 top up http://freeagent.three.co.uk/stand/view/id/5276 |

Call them out, they'll stick a meter on the end of your cable Cheers - they had problems getting a signal at all off the phone cable, although they put it down to being their equipment being crap... |

I'm not very tech savvy so I hope someone can jump in here and help How can it be ex-Blueyonder in former NTL areas? Think about it! As for the telephone being a problem, that is a seperate issue as the telephone runs on it's own cable and has no connection to the broadband whatsoever. If the OP is more than about 50m from the serving street cab then upgrading to a thicker cable will probably cure the problem - it did for me. There is also a question of the type of cable box fitted: if it is an earlier Pace or Grundig, they were not designed to use the higher frequencies that are now present due to the increase in the overall number of channels. My Pace was replaced with a Samsung and it has never blinked since. Final thought: check that there is no attenuator fitted - a small box about 8mm sq and 30mm long with a fixed F-plug on one end and socket on the other, usually fitted to the input socket on the back of the box. If there is, remove that first and see if it has any effect. If the pixelation gets worse it is just possible the box may be bieng overloaded. -- Woody harrogate three at ntlworld dot com |

Actually you are wrong Paul. NTL merged with Telewest and were
the dominant partner - they were three times the size of Telewest. On paper NTL took over Telewest. I was an NTL employee for nearly a decade until we were sold off just before the mix. VM is just a marketing name, albeit the call centre in Peterborough is ex Virgin. Ex Comcast -as was- surely?.. The business interface is branded as NTL-Telewest - which is the name of the owning company. The point I was making is that the infrastructure is not 'mainly Blueyonder stuff' as quoted earlier. In fact, given that NTL were three times the size of Telewest the majority of the infrastructure, by definition, must be ex NTL? Yes it was..well my mate who has worked for them since they were invented sez so ..So he must be right ..-- Tony Sayer |
