Default Panasonic Viera TH37PV500 plasma rolling blue horizontal interference bars fault

Just wondering if anyone has come across this problem?

The lines are very noticeable, and look a bit like analogue ceefax.
There are about 6 lines, moving quickly down through the picture.
They appear on RF and AV inputs, but NOT on the HDMI input.

Effect can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTfduCtARAs

Anyone know what might be causing this?

TIA

No, but try a post to sci.electronics.repair. It's primarily US-
oriented, but that looks like a fault that could happen on a set
anywhere in the world, so someone may chip in with ideas.

I take it you can't get a picture with the RF or AV inputs?

Thanks Mike,

Will try posting as you suggest.

I can get a picture fine, it was just easier to show the effect with
no picture on the screen. Whatever is causing this, it does not affect
the HDMI input, so I guess only affects the analogue stages.

The set is about 3 years old, and has only just started doing this.

It's a long time since I saw that sort of interference. It was on an
analogue TV and was caused by a dispatch company with an almost
continual transmission. The clues were that old VCR recordings showed
no problems and the interference stopped at about 02:00. A
re-alignment of the aerial fixed the problem.

Though I cannot obviously see this, have you altered any of the wiring in
any way, changed anything in the chain etc, fitted any transistor ballasted
lights or resited anything that may have a switch mode psu, just before it
started?

No, but I did wonder if it was something external that was interfering
with the TV. So far, have not found anything. Switching off the mains
to everything attached to the TV made no difference.

Have you tried pulling the aerial out? I had a old Panasonic CRT which gave
a different kind of rolling interference which went away when I pulled the
aerial out.

Yes, and disconnecting everything from the TV, did not make any
difference.

Our tv has just developed rolling blue lines yesterday afternoon, so I went
onto google to see if anyone else has had the problem.
I found your post and it sounded exactly what happened to our tv & when I
looked at your youtube video, it IS exactly what happened to our tv.
I also had tried unplugging everything that was attached with no luck.
It is also very odd that when I tried it in PIP mode, the second picture
works perfectly with no lines????
I was wondering did you have any success in finding out what the problem was?

Again, I hope you don't mind me contacting you, but was pretty excited when
I found someone had the exact same problem.

Hi Susan,

Had to get it repaired in the end, a B board or something like that
was replaced. My set was just over 3 years old, repair cost about
£200.
