Default Missing channel 55

Since the retune after Winter Hill ceased terrestrial transmissions I
can no longer receive any services on channel 55 on either of the
freeview boxes. Everything else comes through with a strong signal.

The Freeview helpline suggest either aerial, but it works well for
everything else, or a box problem, but surely not both boxes?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Before DSO Ch 55 carried BBC 1 analogue, since DSO it carries COM 3, however
because the allocation is shared with Sutton Coldfield (near Birmingham) the
mux is at reduced power (12.5 kW compared with 100 kW for the other five
muxes). It will increase to 100 kW in September 2011.

However that's no lower than any of the 6 muxes pre DSO. How good was your
analogue BBC 1 picture before DSO ?

I didn't notice any problems, seemed as good as any of the other channels.

How far are you from WH ?
Are you south of the mast, where Sutton Coldfield reception is likely ?
Aerial, loft or outdoor, age, condition etc ?
Downlead, how are you splitting the signal between the boxes ?

We are about 45/50 miles and 10 degrees east of due south of WH. The
aerial in on top of a 6 foot mast on top of my narrowboat and we used to
watch Film 4. The aerial is about 6 months old, it is an Image 430 which
is generally considered to be a good 'un and in first rate condition.
The downlead is about 30 foot, new, and runs into a powered two way
splitter. I have tried putting th aerial straight into the box but no
improvement.

Thanks for your interest, appreciated.

I think it might be that the mux is running out of steam by the time it
reaches you, coupled with the fact that you're on the edge of Sutton
Coldfield's service area. I'd say it's a combination of SC's signal having a
destructive effect on the weak mux from WH. Is there any evidence of the four
analogues from SC, UHF Chs, 40,43,46,50 ?
