Hi All,

Im looking to buy a new plasma tv, but i want one which has a USB
connection which I can watch movies on - AVI/DIXV/MPEG/WMV formats.

Does anyone know of such a TV which does this, i have seen some TV in
the shops with a USB but on asking the shop assistant they reckon its
just for JPEGS and MP3.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks

I will probably get the LG 50PS6000, looks really good and has Divx,
`only` £799 in currys.

In the manual it mentions about a Divx registration code, does this
mean i can only watch divx films on my usb with this code?

yes, you go to the web site, which I believe is http://vod.divx.com/, get
a code and punch it into the TV's settings.

How does this differentuate with my DVD player i have at the moment, which
is a philips and it plays my DIVX movies,
ive never had to put in a code, just burnt them to CD and they work fine,
its this im trying to avoid doing thus going straight to the usb stick on
tv.

does your DVD player plug into the USB port. If not I suspect its some form
of port clearance.

No the DVD doesnt have a USB port.

If i get given an .AVI film by a friend, I can pop it in my DVD player and
play the file on a CD or DVD.

Why does the use of LED backlighting not entitle the manufacturer to
describe the set as an "LED TV"? Nowhere do they claim that the LEDs are
modulated to produce the picture, so what do you think they are lying
about? I bought one of these sets because it looks good, is thin and
lightweight, and consumes much less electrical power than any other type. I
don't feel that I've been lied to.

A year or so ago there was a big splash in the tech. press about the
next new technology, LED screens. There were a few demos in non-tech.
TV programmes (though I have my doubts on the use of a TV demo of a TV...).

Here's an example:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ne/7182701.stm

(scroll down a bit and you'll see

"Another OLED player is Samsung which has announced it will be shipping
OLEDs soon; there is no doubt that these too are going to be expensive."

Then Samsung came out with new TVs called "LED TVs" which were not the
new technology.

I'm glad you think you weren't lied to, and understood what you were
getting. The ASA appear to disagree.

The registration code is for video-on-demand services
that use DivX encoding. You don't need a code just to
watch non-VOD DivX films.
http://support.divx.com/faq/view/sup...X%20VOD%20code

To OP:

Most manufacturers now have TVs which can play back
video through USB ports, LAN or Wi-Fi connections.
Lower-end models may be restricted to only pictures
and audio. You pay a premium for these built-in
services. It may be more cost-effective to get a DVD
player or Home Cinema system as even low-end ones now
come with USB connection.
