Do not buy a new TV, do not be taken in by the digital Tick on box or set on
a HD TV set.
BBC just annouced on the BBC News programme Click new equipment will be
needed for BBC HD, ITV, Ch4 and Five in HD next year
My new TV which now gets BBC HD and ITV1 (limited) will need new equipment
for the starting CH4 and Five. in HD.
This was from a Digital TV Group spokesman.
So all the other posts on this group about this are now official to Joe
Public.

You should have realised all that before buying, if you couldn't be
bothered to check then it's your problem.

Where was it ever claimed existing TV's would work with Freeview HD?
It has been known for years you would need to get a HD compatible
STB/PVR in addition to a current generation HD Ready TV.

Personally my TV isn't even hooked up to the aerial, and can already
view HD perfectly (well as perfect as it can be with the low bitrate
the beeb are using).

Oh look , the Tiscali idiot has morphed again.

Nobody has claimed that a HD ready TV with built in freeview tuner will
receive HD Freeview transmissions.

Were you born this dumb or did you practice?

For years you were claiming that there were warehouses of OLED and SED
TVs just waiting for the old fashioned LCD and Plasma panels to sell out
first.

Care to explain why they aren't on sale yet , with any explanation other
than "because you are an idiot"

That's not the Tiscali idiot, though he's an idiot non the less, he's
been whining about Freesat HD since he bought his IDTV without doing any
research.

I had thought with having Freesat HD built in I was doing the right thing.
Apparently not.

How would having an HD Freesat receiver be any guarantee for receiving
'Freeview' HD ?

I don't think it will.
You will be able to get them on your new Freesat TV from satellite just as
you are getting BBC HD and ITV HD now.

Are you possibly mixing up FreeSat HD and FreeView HD ?

The new technical HD format you read about will only be used on FreeView
terrestrial television, and, yes, your TV won't be able to receive them
without a new HD box (None yet manufactured).
BUT...
Your satellite FreeSat HD, and Sky HD will go on using the same techincal
format that it is now and you should get all the new additional HD services
on your FreeSat Tv as they are introduced.

Until C4 and Five find themselves transponder space on Astra 2D for their HD
channels, they will be unable to broadcast FTA on satellite. I can't see any
space on 2D currently, or being available any time soon ?

I think you did the right thing to buy a FreeSat set.
You will get all the new channels, the full bouquet, as they say, on
satellite and maybe more from other broadcasters.

If you had another dish, or could move yours you could receive other of free
continental HD TV services.
Of which the outstanding European arts channel ARTE might be mentioned.

The new technical format for FreeView HD won't make the picture any better,
it's all about enabling the operators to squeeze more channels into the same
airspace.

The picture quality of the BBC HD on satellite has recently been
significantly reduced by cutting the amount of transmitted picture
information almost in half. This has been done so that Freesat HD viewers
will not have a better picture than Freeview HD viewers.
