Default Humax 9200T issues.

I can clear the remote lock-up by switching off the Humax and switching on
again. It's then OK till next time.
I wonder if the problem is due to fragmentation of the HDD. I'm a bit of a
magpie and save a lot of stuff on the drive, but I have noticed that if I
clear some disc space, the lock-ups seem less. It maybe co-incidence, but I
wonder what people's experience is with emptyish discs?
My Sony 870 has (of course) a de-frag facility. What a fine machine the 870
is: it gives the impression that someone at Sony actually used it before
putting it on the market. The only (slight) problem is that it will only
record one channel (hence the Humax has escaped the bin).

I've not noticed any problem related to the disk space, myself, but I
don't fill it so much. My Humax 9200T has locked up, perhaps once every
few months, requiring power cycling.

According to people on the DigitalSpy forums, the 9200T's processor got a
bit overloaded following the introduction of the split NIT on Freeview.

It can be slow to respond to commands from the remote during the first 15
minutes after switch on as it loads the EPG. A fix for this is to refresh
the channel list, then prune the TV channels (those below 100) down to 30
or so. Then get rid of any channels that have got stored in the 800s range
(those from distant transmitters). This usually makes it somewhat better,

If it still locks up, try a full reset from the service menu. Any
settings and recording schedule will have to be re-entered but it doesn't
erase the disk.

Email from Humax today,

"While in writing we are aware that a small number of Freeview+ PVR
users are experiencing issues with their remote controls being sluggish
or unresponsive, and boxes occasionally locking up following the recent
"National re-tune day" and the DSO's.
This has been caused by minor changes (that Humax were not made aware
of) to the broadcast signal in certain areas, and is not a hardware
fault.

Due to this situation our engineers visited from Korea some weeks ago,
and working alongside the various broadcasters, have developed over the
air software updates that correct these issues.
We have already commenced broadcasting these updates for the PVR9150T
and PVR9300T (series) units and hope to be
broadcasting the PVR9200T series) version in the coming weeks."

Default Humax 9200T issues.

December 1st, I get the distinct impression that the performance of my 9200
has improved (last remote control lock-up last week). I haven't seen any
sign of software update, so maybe it's the stripping out of most channels
from EPG.

Anyone else had this experience?

Yes. As I posted on 25 November, stripping out channels certainly helped,
but I have seen a tendency towards slow responses again. Not as bad as
before, but it would be interesting to see what it is like in a couple of
months without a software update.

So how come they are not shown on DTG schedule for this week or next?

Can't answer that, but I got the update over the air for my 9300 last
Thursday, so they're not lying.

I'll have to pull my old 9200 out the cupboard and plug it in.

Of all the tuners I have, this is the one that caused the most bother,
leaving some of the lower channel numbers blank, but with on-screen
idents for what used to occupy them, the channels themselves being
renumbered to 800 and above. Before yesterday, only the BBC channels
had been affected, but after the first retune some of the ITV channels
were renumbered as well. Subsequent retunes resulted in a message about
the number of channels exceeding the storage capacity, at which point I
recalled some advice given here, to do a rescan with the aerial
unplugged to clear the memory. This seems to have restored everything
to normal, but I wonder how many ordinary people who are not TV
engineers will have managed to jump through all the required hoops?

The Panasonic PVR was next on the nuiscance scale, only storing some of
the channels with a full autoscan, requiring two further "add channel"
scans to fill in the gaps. So far, it still seems to have that annoying
habit of declaring the need to scan for a new channel every time it is
switched on, but not adding anything if I opt to do the scan.

The Samsung IDTV and the TVonics tuner gave no problems at all - just
press the button and wait.

Rod.
