Oh not again. Name the installer that completed the job, it will be
on the papers your friend has. I'm amazed Trading Standards haven't
caught up with you yet. Just how many faulty installations to you tell
people they need correcting and how much do you charge them. Is
all or any of this work you do even required?
I might have to find out how many complaints have been made.
After reading some of your posts, your company is one I would avoid.
The word "cowboy" comes to mind.

Eh???????????

Wandering Troll - ignore.

Yes, he's a part time aerial installer; never done anything much except rig
cheap aerials in his local district. He isn't very bright, hence he has
confused one Bill with another.

On the subject of me criticising installations, well, when did 'dog bites
man' ever make the front page? I see lots of very good work, but that isn't
really worth commenting on is it? I'll give it a try and see if it works
though. On the Fiday before last I went to Nottingham on a complaint of 'no
reception' from some but not all of the residents of a fairly new block of
flats. Hoping for a quick fix I was dismayed to find that someone had stolen
one out of four multiswitches. Replacement took a while because the system
used line powered switched of a type that I don't keep, and a quick phone
call told me that there were none available for a week at least. The system
was a model of good practice, with a good solid efficient aerial and dish
installation, and very neat careful head-end work. All materials used were
of the highest quality . . . snore . . .snore . . .

That's Bill from Yorkshire, drinks real ale, makes Jeremy Clarkson sound
like an enviromentalist, you know, that Bill. The one you love to hate . . .

My parents were the first to have Sky installed in their block of
flats. As it's a conservation area the dish had to be on the top of
the building so it wouldn't be visible from street level. When they
lost their signal a few weeks ago they called Sky who sent out one of
their fitters to investigate. Turned out that when the neighbours had
had Sky insatlled the fitters had just wired eveyone in the block to
the original dish instead of putting in a new one for each household.

True, mine shows the senders email by default so it is relatively easy
to see who's who.

Good man, names are so last year. I can't wait for the day when we are
all known by our postcodes, so much simpler.

The way the UK is going, that probably won't be too far away I fear :-/

In fact surely everyone is already known by their NI number, and before
much
longer their National Database number.

It is all in the database, you know.

Fine if the database is not corrupt. I had a cheque from HMR&C last week
made payable to a Mr.N.Foster at my address but with a totally different NI
number to me. When I rang to query it I was asked to return it but no
explanation was given as to what had happened to mine. The Information
Commissioner is investigating as well.

I'm always amazed at how poor Sky seem to be at checking up on the work of
their fitters. When we send someone out to a site we keep a record of who
did what and the date. Problems in future can usually be attributed to an
individual.

I presume their lack of control stems from their extensive use of
sub-contractors who are often rushing? I've recently seen a local
sub-contractor exclusively using Triax RG6 cable on a Sky contracted
install. AFAIK RG6 is not Sky approved and nets the subbie extra profit from
the job. Another local subbie has not replaced his meter since it got
fatally dropped - the story I heard involved an assistant and lot of
shouting.

Yes indeed -- most database "corruption" arises from incorrectly entered
data ie human input errors, and the NI database and National Identity Database
will have the same problems of human error, even more so with the National
Identity Database being linked to all the other databases which will also
contain their own bad records.

And recall that nasty business in the movie Brazil where a bad printout
resulted in the wrongful arrest and death of an innocent man.

Is that the database with your passport number, your NHS number, your
driving licence number or....?
