Default Repair news on LCD's and Plasma needed

My 8 year old projector TV is costing me too much for repair mainly on
color doubling up. This happened once before 3 years ago and had to
pay a hefty $325 bill with 6 months warranty. Now, the same problem is
happening again. I just had another repair man tell me he can fix it
for $400 odd dollars and a year warranty...By me hesitating, I got him
to offer me the repair for 300...I told them that I would think about
it. In turn, he told me that he is getting a lot of lcd's and plasma
repair jobs, so they are no bargains either when it comes to repairs.
Of course, he is pulling the 'scare' tactic so he can get this job.
But, I was wondering if what he was telling me is true. Does anyone
know the repair records for LCD and Plasma hd TV's? I rather bite the
bullet and buy one than to keep repairing this one, although it has
given us great pleasure when its working right.

I haven't had any problems, but my two LCD sets are pretty new. AVS
Forum may have more statistics if you search their web site.

One of my sets is a Sony 32 inch. It is about two years old. It has been
perfect.

The other is brand new. It is a Vizio 55 inch LCD. It is $1899 at
Costco, and has a three year warranty (one year from Vizio, one from
Costco, and one from American Express). The picture quality blows away
the LCD projector that it replaced, and that was only 5 years old and
great for the time. It was still working, but the picture on the Vizio
was so much better that I decided to upgrade.

With an 8 year old set, if you can afford it, replacing it would be a
good choice. Even if not, I'm not sure I'd want a repair person who
shifts his prices, and tries scare tactics.

Did they explicitly state the warranties run consecutively? I guess
you'll find out if something breaks. I hope you don't find out.

I have not needed a repair for my Vizio, but I understand replacement parts
are not available.

If it dies, I buy a new one.

Yes, they explicitly listed the coverage. At the checkout, they also
explained the coverage, and made sure I used my Costco Amex card as they
were not sure if my other Amex would give the same coverage.

I hope I don't find out also.

Don't know where you got that information. vizparts.com is one of
several sources for after warranty replacement parts for Vizio TV's.
They list circuit boards, power supplies, etc.
