Default EPG - Electronic Program Guides

I am getting frustrated!

I want to buy a 40" - 42" HDTV.
I want it to have a functional Electronic Program Guide for OTA programming.

I know that some Samsung models have it and some Sony models supposedly do
also.
I called Samsung and after lots of "hold on a minute and I will check", I
was told
that NONE of their models have EPG. I know this is false, because a
relative has one and
it indeed has an EPG for OTA. It is fairly good, but does not show a grid
like my Samsung
260 HDTV STB has.

Any one have any idea which model (under $1000) has a good EPG?

Thanks in advance,
Richard

First, you need to be precise on for what broadcast system you need
it (what part of the world, which provider..)

Second, you need to be precise on what you think is a good user
interface. I don't like the versions I have seen with horizontal time
axis because the shorter programs with normal title length and normal
length programs with longer title lengths are not presented in a way
that is understandable, unless I move the marker around to highlight
those programs separately.

The best EPG presentation I have is in a satellite receiver box that
can show both the program titles and the first heading line, inter
mixed, on the same screen using a vertical time axis. Then I can
"skip" one page at a time and only highlight the ones that look
interesting to read all the detailed information.

Yeah. I didn't know there were such things until I plugged in my NTSC
converter box to a $99 old 15", and there it was! My Sony 32" HD
doesn't have a darn thing. Go figure.

Some Sony models do. Read the manual or try different things on the remote.

I still want to get a TV that has one.

Most Vizio TVs have a complete program guide that comes from the PSIP
data. Some hgher end sony TVs have TV Guide on Screen.

Has anyone used an on-line /on-your-computer EPG?

I've used TitanTV (http://www.titantv.com/), in the past with great
satisfaction - included one click scheduling for my USB tuners. They
made some GUI changes earlier this year and became useless to me, but
they may still be of use to you as I've read few complaints from
others. After the change I switched to Zap2It
(http://www.zap2it.com/) and have stuck with it since, although it
does not interface with my tuners.

Nice (and fast) - just what I was looking for! Thanks.

Do you have any info or a link to which Vizio models?
That sounds like exactly what I want.

Thanks!

Try checking the Vizio website. The information is there.
