Default Yet more Poor Sound Production on ITV XFactor!

Again, more poor sound production from ITV on the Xfactor this evening. Why
do they not employ people with suitable experience to maintain a steady
output? People who know about audio mixing, limiting etc.
The most annoying thing is that the sound output being broadcast is 50% of
other ITV programmes, so when adverts come on, they are twice as loud!
The screams from the crowd mixed over the top of speech and singing is VERY
annoying now as the level is much higher.

So at the moment on ITV out of the 100% audio, there is 50% on the actual
programme and 100% with compression for the adverts. Out of the 50% for the
Xfactor, 30% is the people singing and 45% is the crown noise, then 50% the
presenter with compression and no limiting. When the Judges speak their
level is set to 40% with the crowd still at 45%!

It's completely mad! Maybe this is what happens when ITV employ completely
inexperienced people to deal with the audio side of things. The camera work
is bad enough - I am not sure why they don't just swing them about and
select an input every few seconds at random. It looks like they are doing
this now!

I don't see what a charity has to do with the Xfactor. If you look on the
Charities Commission web site you will see how much the featured one is
making, how much money they have and also how much directors take as wages.
If they didn't take such high amounts of money away from the intended
recipients I might take notice. I disagree with people using a "charity" as
an excuse as a type of emotional blackmail. If directors took a wage cut,
more money would be available, so I suggest you write and say you will only
donate when that happens. Let's name and shame the directors of that
charity.

They do this to catch your attention and keep you interested....That
is ..if you happen to lose interest in the program , a quick blast
from a trumpet or a shriek from the audience will capture your
attention again . Adverts do it all the time .They totally ruin the
viewing experience in my view

I don't watch the X Factor, but I *really* don't believe the adverts sound
louder than it.

They do. The X factor is in new territory. Crowd noise louder than
judge/presenter level. Backing track louder than contestant vocal and (in
some cases) backing vocal louder than lead vocal. The adverts, as always,
are louder than the programme.

I disagree with the almost universal condemnation of the sound engineers
working on this programme. They are merely delivering the product to the
spec required by their masters.

The sound mixing is by design and quite deliberate.

With all those effects being so loud - but the ads louder - the actual
prog material must be very low. ;-)

In one.

For quite some time now there are people in charge of these sort of
popular programmes who have no interest in or ever watch TV. Only their
own prog in their own office - and never as part of an evening's
programming, or even at home.
Of course they can justify their 'standards' - or rather lack of them -
by pointing at the success of such shows.

My reaction to this cavalier approach is simply not to watch this sort of
prog.

'The sound crew' don't have control 'over the mic levels'. That job is
handled by the sound supervisor. They could have control over what is
heard in the studio, but not what the viewer hears.

I'm sure you're right. During last Saturday's episode there was a quick
glimpse of the man who waves his hands and arms to encourage the
audience to applaud. Dannii Minogue was trying to speak and wanted the
audience to be quieter but there he was in the background making upward
hand movements to encourage even louder applause.
