Mother-in-law has one on top of her TV.

Cheapo one from Tesco a few years back.

No idea of the model - if my goldfish memory functions above expectations I
will record the details and let you know.

The old Wharfedale DV832B sold by Argos shows the time when in standby,
and channel number when in operation.

Argos also sells an LED alarm clock for £3.81

The Digihome PVR80 (presumably based upon the same machine) does the same,
but it also shows the running time when playing back.

But I just can't get used to looking there for that and keep on pressing the
"info" button to find out

These supermarket PVR variants are made in Turkey by Vestel and do indeed
display a clock on standby.

Great marketing opportunity here. a box shaped like a carriage clock so
nobody knows your tv is analogue.
