Hi all ibought a Ferguson set top for my farther in law some time ogo. But
when I did the last update all the channel are mixed up IE BBC1 is listed as
channel 800 and something. I having a lot of trouble sorting things out. Im
thinking of buying another box.. Could some one please point me in the right
direction to which one to buy. The farther in law is 86 years old and would
like one with BBC 1 on channel 1,, and BBC 2 on channal 2.. ETC. for the
first 5 channels..

I would be greatful for any suggestions.

Don't get a new STB. The Ferguson can probably be sorted out. Other
people have had similar problems with other makes of box. The problem is
often that the existing channel information has not been deleted from
the box before the new information from the retune is acquired. This
leads to a muddle.

Someone will almost certainly be along soon with suggestions for sorting
out this problem.

That's basically it.

Delete all the channels and rescan.

If you still have programmes in the 800s, you may be receiving from more
than one transmitter, so post here and we'll try to sort you out.

(Of course replacing the box will fix it, but only because you will start
with a clean slate.)

Pull the aerial out and do a rescan. Then plug it in and do another.

All above is true. Delete all channels first, then try.

I have just spent a couple of weeks sorting out Freeview boxes and TVs
all over thew place. Most of the troubles were caused by the powers-
that-be telling people to go back to factory default settings which is
the worst thing to do with many TVs and also with many freeview boxes
as this removes all personalised settings. In the case of many TVs
this means that al of the picture and sound settings are reset to
square one and often so is the analogue tuning for reception of a Sky
box etc when it is fed in from another room.
It also resets the RF out channel on boxes which have this, so the pic
on the TV vanishes, causing all sorts of geief.

Esp in the case of Humax TVs and boxes, it is much better to go to
"edit channels" and delete all TV and radio, and then autosearch. This
leaves the other settings alone.

If you do need to get another box, one of the best for an older person
(or anyone who likes to keep it simple) is the Tvonics 300. And its
tiny so you can stick it to the back of the TV. The 300 is very
slightly more expensive than the 200 as it has a much bigger better
remote handset. Its also got a magic button "Home" which takes you
back to BBC1, no matter what!

It won't fix it if it is a more than one transmitter problem though it may
change the orders around.

I'm still scratching my head as to why the Netgem box I have has decided
every so often to do a reset for no apparent reason. Suspect noisy mains??

Brian, don't know specifically on that, but my Netgem iPlayer's power
supply seems to have quite a good store of charge when it's disconnected
to the effect that if I'm pulling the mains power to reset it, I have to
leave the plug out more than 30 seconds before re-powering up. Otherwise
it just moans about "bad signal" when looking for BBC1.

So on that flakey evidence, I don't think local mains fluctuations would
necessarily upset it that badly.

Thanks to all who replied. I will do a rescan without antenna and do
another. to get the channels back in some logical order.

As I will not be seeing him this week I will reply when i get a chance

Which model is it? Ferguson is just an instore brand, they are all
different.

The 800s problem sometimes needs an OAD, which have been transmitted for
the affected boxes, but many boxes rely on the owner to accept the OAD
while it is still being broadcast, and of course many don't know what it
means or simply don't use it while the OAD is occurring.

Don't know which box it is. As it belongs to my farther in law. But I will
endever to sort it out with all of the suggestions in the posts above, when
I get to his house. We are in the Emley Moor area, so its not that inportant
at the moment, as he only watches the anologe channels just now. Has not got
to the modern digital stuff yet. He's 86 years old. but he doesn't want to
be without when Emley changes over.
