Default Sound outputs on flat screen tv's

Very few sets with phono outs are affected by the settings of the tone
and volume controls.

Some can be configured on the menus so that they are affected by the
volume setting.

Some sets have two sets of phono outs, one fixed and one variable.
Some Toshiba models.

Some Samsungs that have 3.5mm jack outs are interesting in that when
you plug into that socket, the tone controls become disabled and the
socket gives an output which is flat tone but is variable volume which
is useful if you want to use a simple pair of powered speakers. This
would not be good for your use though.

Recent Toshibas (certainly the RV series) have a 3.5 jack output which
is set on the menus as either an output which switches the internal
speakers of ond tracks with the volume control OR doesn't switch the
speakers off and is a fixed level, but the output level can be set on
the menus. This would be good for your use.

Out of interest, and not really relevant now,...but it may apply to
some (who knows?) Some of the last Nokia/Akai CRT sets had phono out
which was fixed when the speakers in the set were in use but when you
pressed mute, the phonos then varied with the volume buttons on the
remote. Once you had set the output level from the phonos and you came
off mute, the phonos stayed at that setting and the speakers were
variable again.

Indeed - there are lots of permutations out there. If a seller can't tell
you what features any model has it would seem sensible to find one who can.
Perhaps a warning about buying on ticket price only.

They've omitted the 3.5 headphone jack on most TV models, aiui

sound.

It certainly does. My guess is that most sit to far away from large
TVs to use ordinary headphones.

Don't give up the day job.

More credible explanation than yours.

Duh... except that small screen LCD sets typically don't have headphone
sockets either.

Both my Panny TX-19LXD8 and Humax 17" have headphone sockets.

I'm hard of hearing and have a inductive loop system fitted in my room
working of the loud speaker socket (3.5mm) of an old CRT TV. which is
still active when the internal speakers are in the mute condition. I need
this facility because my wife likes to read while I watch TV.

I've been looking to replace the TV with a Samsung 40 inch flat screen
LCD
model. But I find that this model has no L.S. socket output. The audio
output is by a Phono socket. (I can change the plug to phono on problem).
My question is when the internal speakers are muted are the audio phono
sockets still giving output so my inductive loop system (Amplifier) will
still work.

I've asked the supplier but he says he doe's not know, and has no
facility
to try it .

Would someone with knowledge please advise me as to the best conclusion
to this problem.

Thanks in advance for any information
Tony Atkins.

I have a similar set-up for my wife using a Panasonic LCD TV.
We don't use an inductive loop, but instead use a separate amplifier with
headphones.

In our case we simply take the stereo audio output from the TV (phono
sockets) and connect this to the amp. We use the TV remote to turn down
the
built in TV speakers so that they are inaudible. This does not affect the
output on the phono sockets.

Thanks to all. It seems that the question wandered off the subject for
alittle while. But all in all the question was answered. In response.

I bought the TV a Samsung 40 inch model LE40 530P7W ...The sound output from
the phono stereo sockets L & R at the back are unaffected by the volume
control, EG, When the sound is turned down to zero or the sound is put in
Mute. Output is still available at the L & R stereo phono sockets. This is
fine for the my Loop system. Which works just fine.

Once again many many thanks for all who took interest in the problem, and
the discussions that were forthcoming.

Best regards

Tony Atkins
