Default Warning to Freview PVR users

I think we may see many more users of Freeview PVRs finding that their
equipment has not coped well with the retune once their current stored EPG
has expired. Many boxes download EPG data overnight (usuallt valid for 14
days after the download), but many have failed to do this since the retune
on 30 September. For the time being these boxes will continue to operate
normally until the stored EPG data expires (7 or 14 days after your retune).
I have retuned several units recently whos EPG data is not now updating at
all. I completely reset one PVR and now find it only supports 'Now and
Next' data, which means it no longer has a 14 day EPG available and is not
capable of being programmed to record programmes using the EPG. The only
way they can now to programmed is manually. Maybe you should factory reset
your box and find out if it really has survived the Freeview massacre.

Interesting. My Humax 5200 is only downloading a 7 day EPG at present
whereas I believe it should download a 14 day.

In fact there are only a small number of Freeview PVRs that need the
overnight download. From memory (and some personal experience) the
Thomson DHD4000 is one, as are some of the earlier Digifusion PVRs. I
think there is one other brand (Inverto?).

The EPG delivery company (Inview) have had some intermittent problems
recently with overnight downloads, but they have usually fixed
things. I don't expect there to be any change to this, so whilst the
boxes don't currently have the right EPG data I do think it will come
in the next few days.

As you say, where no EPG data exists the boxes revert to basic "Now
and Next" and do not populate with the Freeview EPG data.

More info over at the digitalspy forums.

I have a Digifusion that I only take on hols with me & I was on hols
last week. It did indeed have trouble doing the EPG download. I had
just done a lash up HD upgrade to a 2.5" drive & thought this was
causing the problem. I was awake in the wee small hours & watched it
go into epg mode & then get stuck on the reboot, needed a power down
to fix it & no epg update.
I'm about to cancel Sky & will probably bring it back to full time use
so I'll see how it gets on tonight with a clean HD in it.

Please report back your findings. Which model Digifusion is it BTW?

The Freeview EPG that is transmitted continuously is 7 days. The OP is
referring to EPG transmitted by a third party once per day and which may
be for 14 days.

My boxes start populating the EPG immediately after a reset - perhaps
taking up to 30 minutes for the full 7 days.

It's bloody annoying having most of "Five"'s drama programs flagged
as* "Movies"

They're just passing along the information given to them by the
broadcasters. To get the information changed, contact the broadcaster
of that channel. I assume the address on five.tv's web site would do.

EPGs are restored this morning for InView-EPG PVRs, so a full 14 day
EPG is now restored. Panic over!

I'm unsure whether the issue of "genre" flagging is related to InView
though.
