" wrote in message news:aa56f490-2a1a-4125-9a24- Well, not trying to argue, but the eyes adjust. Like flicker on American CRTs that we don't notice but drives Euros crazy. What??? Why would a 60Hz refresh bother a Euro used to 50Hz PAL and SECAM? Not to mention that modern HD flatpanels refresh at much higher rates. I lived in Germany from 80-81, and the 50Hz flicker was noticeable. |

Remember, folks, the fluorescent lighting flickers at *TWICE* the power line frequency. The tube lights on both positive and negative half cycles. It is also on for a lot longer percentage of the cycle each time, so the dark periods are even shorter. The 50 Hz CRT has light only 50 times per second, and most of that 1/50 second is dark. Alan |

The electronic ballats in our current house and previous house switches around 20KHz so 40K flickers/second. No more headaches, more efficient and instant on of the lamps. And the better news is they are not expensive or difficult to install. G² |

snip For me 85Hz flicker is noticeable on my CRT computer monitor. CRTs continuously 'paint' the screen with an electron beam. LCDs, plasmas and DLPs update the display but even if it was a 1 Hz rate, it wouldn't flicker, it would just be terribly 'choppy'. G² |
