Old Sky box and/or Freeview?

OK, I freely admit to being more than just a bit thick and I apologise if
this has been covered before but I need help, because I'm completely
confused by the difference between Freeview, Freesat, Freesat from Sky
and/or whatever else may be out there.

We had "standard" Sky Digital for about 10 years and then went to Sky+. When
the engineer installed a quad LNB and ran the new cables for Sky+, I asked
him to leave the old cable in so that I could then re-run it into the
bedroom and use the old Sky Digibox in there - but I never actually got
round to doing it.

We go through DSO here on 4th November (Winter Hill transmitter - Granada)
so my question is, if I resurrect my old Sky box (which currently has no
viewing card), what channels could I expect to get out of it in comparison
to buying a new Freeview STB?

Is there a website that shows side-by-side what channels are on which
system?

A Sky box with no card will receive default regions - that is
BBC1 London and ITV1 Central West. All other viewing (as distinct
from advertising) channels that you can get on Freeview you will
get on Sky except M&M, the siblings of five, Dave, and Virgin1.
In addition you will get Euronews, Russia Today, and France 24
which are not on Freeview.

You can buy a viewing card from Sky for a once off charge of £20
which will give you your correct regions (assuming the region
where you live is the region that Sky also says) and the five
siblings but still not Dave and Virgin1. You can use an expired
package viewing card to get the same free channels.

For clarification:-
Freeview is terrestrial didgital TV
Freesat is TV sourced from the same sats as Sky but with a
different EPG.
Freesat from Sky is sat sourced TV with the Sky programme guide
plus the ability to add any Sky packages you want at any time
(albeit you may then also have to have the landline connection.)

Pull the card from your Sky+ and power cycle the box.
The channels you are left with are exactly the ones you
will get with a standard digibox with no card.
Note that 101 now maps to London and 103 is Midlands E
BBC North-West can be received 978.
Granada is a bit more problematic, it can be tuned in with
"additional channels" and viewed via "other channels". Messy.
Chanel 5 on 105 is scrambled, so without a card you get an
on-screen message, but, for reasons that I cannot fathom an
unencrypted version is transmitted outside the EPG which
again can be tuned as an additional channel (10.773 H 22 5/6 "FIVE")
Again, messy.

I can't see the 06:00 - 08:00 slot in the EPG though.

Will you actually need a new Freeview STB? DSO won't necessarily mean
that you need a new STB, it depends on whether is was originally built

Dont forget that FreeviewHD kit (should) be avail before switchoff takes
place in Granada. The OP doesnt likely have a HD Telly as most have had
Freeview from the early stages but it is worth watching for the boxes.
I would suggest if the OP has good reception to just pay the 6-7£ for a
freeview box ..

That's there for Freesat boxes, and is mapped to Ch 105 only on
Freesat's EPG. There are four encrypted regional (ads only) versions of
C5, these are mapped to Ch 105 on Sky's EPG according to your postcode.

That's why you still need a card to view C5 on a Sky box (without the
need to manually add it using 10773)

You're mistaken about M&M, it is not on Freeview but is on sky 178 on the
epg also on Freesat 450.
