I've now seen quite a few of these inappropriate trailers and I don't
believe it's just on Virgin. They are more likely to make me switch
channels than watch the next programme.

Does anyone recall the childrens saturday morning compilations in the 1970s?
They quite often put scrolling messages on screen plugging the next bit of
cartoon, telling people to ring in with answers to the competition set in
the previous studio hosted part etc.

I thought at the time it was the thin end of the wedge, and of course its
the kiddies of that era who were watching those who are in the management
positions of today...

I can't recall a single time when an in-program promo resulted in me
changing my viewing plans. In the future I can't see them being any more
useful as people move more and more towards Tivo-like systems of capturing
programs for later viewing. "On Next" promos will become totally pointless.

Virgin1 seems to be worst offender when it comes to these trailers, and in
combination with the DOG it puts me off watching it much of the time. Even
worse is the new habit they have of the announcer talking over the
programme, either to announce what's on next or to say inanities like 'Well
I think it's time for a cup of tea, we are going to a break now, see you
after the adverts'! Bad enough having a break, without missing 10 seconds of
a scene before it goes to break...
