Default Audio compression method used in DVB-T & DVB-T2

Understand video compression method used in DVB-T is MPEG-2 and in DVB-T2 is
MPEG-4. What about the compression method in audio on both systems?

Thanks,

Scott

In this country, yes. Ireland are using MPEG-4 with DVB-T for their
HD services.

To the best of my knowledge, Ireland currently has no HD services, but all
of the SD services when rollout commences will be encoded with MPEG-2.

September launch of DTT delayed

RTE have confirmed that they will not be launching the DTT platform in
September as previously planned. The new plan is to launch its services
alongside those of the commercial platform and both “jump together”

And in France, DVB-t subscription services are encoded in MPEG-4, whilst
FTA services are encoded in MPEG-2.

Serious slip of the finger there -- that should of course be *MPEG-4*
not MPEG-2.

Furthermore, subscription services in Germany which are in the process
of starting, are also using MPEG-4 rather than MPEG-2 for encoding,
as is the case in France.

RTL to launch more pay and free to air DTT services

RTL is to launch DTT services in Halle and Leipzig during the autumn.
The licence granted by the media authorities in Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony
will allow RTL to broadcast four free to view DTT services as well as
two pay-DTT services.

To access the services viewers will need to purchase an STB with
MPEG-4 AVC decoding and a smartcard using Conax encryption.

During the first year of service the two pay DTT services will be free
of charge after which they will cost €2.90/month

This service offering is similar to the RTL service available in
Stuttgart.

The same here in Sweden (Stockholm area).

DVB-T/T2, C/C2 and S/S2 has NOTHING to do
with MPEG compression nor audio compression.

The transmission protocols take bits as input
and deliver the same bits, in the same order
and errorfree at the DVB receiver
- PERIOD - FULL STOP - NO MORE NO LESS.

It is very important that all receivers can
handle all combinations - within the agreed
standards - as those combinations that now
seems unlikely - may be the likely ones tomorrow.

But RTE is testing with MP2, but the spec agreed
includes HE-AAC compressed audio and AC3+ (DD)
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/attac...3&d=1230944026

The D-Book is not in the public domain , but
I am sure HE-AAC and AC3+ are among the required
audio compressions standards.
(I think both are part of MPEG-4 HP @ Level 4,
but have not the time to check just now)

Lars

PS! HD STB's in the UK must support DVB-T2 and
MPEG-4 High Profile Level 4.0
