I sent an email to the In Touch program the other day, and got two replies.
One was the auto responder about we may or may not reply stuff, and the other was a NOT read receipt, to tell me my email was not read by a certain person. Surely this is not going to do their reputation much good if they are actually sending out not read confirmation emails? What are they doing? Brian -- Brian Gaff - Note:- In order to reduce spam, any email without 'Brian Gaff' in the display name may be lost. Blind user, so no pictures please! |

Brian -- Brian Gaff - Most companies switch off their receipts as it clutters up the network. Even if you got a read receipt, it doesn't mean anyone read the message. It just means someone clicked on it and then ignored it. |

Yes, but that's good enough evidence in our company for someone to be deemed to have read something, and therefore *should* have acted upon the contents of that email. Blame culture is alive and kicking in some organisations. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

Blame culture is alive and kicking in some organisations. You should obey the watch your back email rules. Leave your out of office responder on as long as possible (preferably all day). Always scan the email subject and sender before moving you cursor anywhere near it. If you open it accidently. immediately forward onto someone else inferring they will deal with (remember to cc the sender). From an ex corp man. |

Surely this is not going to do their reputation much good if they are actually sending out not read confirmation emails? What are they doing? At the company where I work we use Microsoft Office Outlook, my PC has the 'reading pane' switched on. I am able to read the content in the bottom half of Outlook by a single-click of the subject, but the item is not treated as 'read' by Outlook unless subject is double-clicked and opens in a new window. Therefore if I preview the email and then delete it Outlook sends out a "not read" message! Of course I am not saying that the BBC use Outlook but it just goes to show that you can't trust a "not read" confirmation is true. |

They do, but anyone with a modicum of sense has the Read receipt junk turned off. Likewise the Deleted receipt and the Preview pain (sic). |
