That is what is known as "The bugs letter"

There was a story, which may be an urban myth, about a Canadian
Railroad, who sent a letter to a passenger who had complained about
being biten by bedbugs whilst on a sleeper train across the Rockies. The
letter expressed surprise and regret at the incident and assured the
customer that the train had been thoroughly disinfected and that this
was an isolated incident. They hoped that the passenger would not be put
off from travelling with the company again. What did put the passenger
off, however, was the fact that his original letter had been included in
the reply - on the bottom - some manager had scrawled "Send him the Bed
Bugs letter!"

move it to BBC One as soon as we could and to stay with it right to the end
to ensure that the maximum number of people could enjoy this nail biting

I was in Vancouver last week, and on BBC World, the entire hour long
"news" programme was given over to this pop singer's death. It seemed to
go on for a couple of days. Nothing else was happening in the world.

I'll tell you what our lass does. She tells me a tale involving several
different people, then she'll say something like 'she went . . .' or 'he
went . . .' and there have been three or four shes or hes in the tale, and
the one refered to could be any of them. So I say, 'who went, Gladys?' and
our lass gives me a look of withering contempt and says, 'No of course not,
it was Beryl. Why would it be Gladys?'

What makes them think all viewers have a PC and can use iPlayer?

It's only half an answer anyway - the streams are off-air recordings,
so several regions didn't put their show up because they hadn't
reconfigured it to record BBC2. BBC Centres like Hull, Oxford and
Cambridge which can't opt on BBC2 analogue independently of their
parent region, and Jersey whose analogue tx is DSat fed didn't do a
programme anyway. Hull is the only one of those which does a full
half hour rather than a sub opt.

But ALL the regional feeds get sent to the central C & M, so it's not
rocket science to feed them on the iplayer servers.

No, please don't, anybody. It would get taken seriously, and further
depress the quality of the balance.

Hmmm! I am rather busy dealing with BT whose 'computerised' billing
system neglected to give me a 23p discount.
I must be getting higher up the chain of command as the next to last
email I have received from them was from a gentlemand named
Prince Vinoth Arockia Rajan!

(The continued stream of irrelevant correspondence is what made me leave
them - even if I ended up paying more, about which I'm not sure.)

Writing in 'all innocence' is not one of my natural talents, 'pretend
innocence' would be beyond me, so if anyone wishes to try it on with
the Beeb, be my guest.

It's a depressing exercise writing to them anyway - whether in fake
innocence or not; you're most likely to get a response (if you get one
at all) containing some standard text, which isn't relevant to what you
wrote to them about. (And BT, Brutish Gus, ...)

I remember someone saying she was so pleased to get a personal letter
back from Enid Blyton, the children's author, when she wrote a fan
letter - and her incredible disappointment when she received exactly the
same letter on a subsequent occasion. She said it had made her
determined that all children's letters would be truly individually
replied to; I think it might have been Biddy Baxter of Blue Peter fame.

As another has said, this is very condescending and irritating. Along
with the endless plugging of iPlayer, the red button (though they do
seem to mention that less now), and websites. A large proportion of the
BBC's audience (possibly particularly so) are not computerate, and/or
don't have the necessary broadband.
