Does anyone have any knowledge of the likely quality of workmanship? Is there a catch? Who cares if the install is crap, re-do it yourself if it is, it's worth it for the 4 months of up front sky 4 pack. Just remember to cancel at 4 months Steve Terry Mark is talking about Freesat not the pay once and watch forever which costs less from Argos than a Freesat install which is for the dish installation only. I know people who have Sky and have had no problem with the work. -- Regards, David FREESAT HD as it is now it is a joke. |

I don't call that cheap, it's the same price they've charged since the start of Freesat, that is £68.08 + VAT when the VAT rate goes back to 17.5% it will be back to £80. Don't forget this is for installation only, on top of the price of the equipment. -- I think Freesat from SKY better value equipment and installation http://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyproducts The best value at the moment is the Sky Pay Once Watch Forever Pack, £73.40 from Argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...text%3ESKY.htm It's not much cheaper and I wouldn't want the hassle of connecting up a phone line for the sky box. Not much cheaper than what? It is about the cheapest installation you can get. Have you actually read through what you quoted? -- There is no God, so stop worrying and enjoy your life. |

So if you want PVR functionality, you'd need a (non-Sky) Freesat PVR box - so why not just go with Freesat from the start. D That would cost more than the cheap Freesat install which started this thread. Personally I intend to get the Panasonic DMR-XS350 and install it myself. -- There is no God, so stop worrying and enjoy your life. |

The best value at the moment is the Sky Pay Once Watch Forever Pack, £73.40 from Argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...text%3ESKY.htm It's not much cheaper and I wouldn't want the hassle of connecting up a phone line for the sky box. You can safely unplug the phone line as soon as the installer has left. Sky will not contact you about it. You can also do that with a normal subscription package. In fact the only situation where SKY do enforce the phone line requirement is where you have a subsidised Multiroom subscription, for reasons which should be obvious. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

A satellite installation will take me from an hour to about 5 hours,
depending where the tv is situated, where the dish must go to get a signal, where the dish could go to make it a discrete installation, if it goes on a chimney, if the cables go through the loft, underground across the lawn(!), under the floor. They can be diplexed into the existing downleads (if the cable is good enough), combined as two down one cable with a stacker/destacker arrangement for Sky+/Freesat+. Wall outlet plates used, or not etc etc. In short, any company which offers a flat rate is likely to the absolute bare minimum. I have seen vertical runs of cable, roof to ground with 2 cable clips, cables run all round the house in the gutters, huge holes burst through the walls, black cables down white walls, white cables down dark walls, cables strung loosely round door frames and hundreds of other atrocities and almost never see an F plug tightened up properly at the LNB or the receiver. If you want it done properly, rather than giing the usual British route of cheapest will do, why not get someone who cares about what they do and how they do it. Not that I am biased, of course!! its just that I get so frustrated at the way the public is ripped off and the slap-happy attitude of many of the faceless install companies. Would it be the same in Germany, Holland, Swizerland, Austria etc, I wonder ?? Just a personal view, of course! |

Just incase you were wondering, it certainly is possible to do a
perfectly good job for around £60 to £70 if all is straightforward, its just that I would never trust anyone who works on a flat rate system. |
