Therefore the statement about a Van being subject to 50mph limit needs
expanding. At one time that rule did apply to all Vans but it was
quite a long time ago that the law was relaxed for Car derived
Vans. These are subject to the same limits as Cars.Larger Vans such the
Transit,Vivaro, Sprinter are still subject to the 50mph limit.
The Ford Transit connect is a strange one, it is quite a small van but
as it was designed as such and there is no car equivalent it too is
subject to the 50 Rule as far as I understand.

The DfT website refers to vans based on the same 'chassis' as a car. Since
no car has had a chassis - Morgans & Lotus 7s apart - for a very long time,
I assume all vans are sunject to a 50 limit.

Funnily enough I saw motorcyclist collide with a car on Sunday
afternoon on the M3 near Fleet Services, a minute earlier I'd seen
him playing silly bugger in the manner described above.

This afternoon on the road from Lichfield to Uttoxeter I was
overtaken by a bike. We were doing 50, we were on a seriously blind
bend, and there were double continuous white lines. If someone had
come round the corner I don't know what would have happened.

When I see a Motorcycle ridden stupidly I just think that at least
somebody somewhere may get a Kidney or other bits.

A little while later a white van identical to my work van did much
the same thing, but a car came the other way and he had to dodge
desperately back in behind me. He overtook us about two miles
further on, and blew his horn at us in rage because we were going
too slowly for him. But I think 50 is quite reasonable for a
winding country road.

50 is the legal limit for a van on a single carriageway road. You
should have taken his number and reported him for dangerous driving.

He has said other posts that he drives a Mercades van so is subject to the
50mph limit. I thought the Transit Connect was based on the Ford Fusion so
was car derived, I could be wrong about that.

For chassis substitute base pan.

I think you'll find the general standards of biker's riding is better

Might be so with *true* bikers - but not so for most of those driving
powered two wheel vehicles. Or perhaps you don't have pizza delivery etc
riders or kids with their first scooter round your way?

John Majors Gov was going to ban L Plate riders from Pizza deliveries,
until they realised pizzerias would then have to pay real money for
qualified
riders, and transplant surgeons would get even less organs to transplant

Victorians only sent kids up chimneys, we send them out on busy roads
to do a professional riding job, unqualified.

Interesting, we have often run speed watch checks in close colaboration

I've often thought it would be a good idea to have a speed check 50 m
after a speed camera to catch the brake then accelerate idiots.

I know that, but it's the uswe fo the word "chassis" that makes me wonder
how up-to-date the DfT are.

police.

true..

You can kill someone and go to jail for 6 months..
If you get fired you will spend 9 months looking for a job and have no
income..

and have you tried doing that when all 3 lanes are at 80.........its

Really? If you are driving in the nearside lane, as I'm sure that you
know you should, how can traffic behind you force you to go faster?

It can't. I just means that you have a constant stream of people pulling
out into lane 2 behind you, meaning the chances of a collision occurring
right next to you is higher than it would otherwise be.

Then you should do it, and let the people hit each other.

True, but if all 3 lanes are doing 80 (and there is a lot of traffic) then
you have reason to doubt your speed tacho.
