http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc
After reading this article, it's apparent to me difference in betwwen DVD and Blue-Ray disc is: 1: The capacity of the disc. 2: The dye/coating used 3. The wavelength of the laser used. In the same way we moved from CDd to DVD we have now moved from DVD to Blue Ray also referred to as Blue Ray-Disc or BD. While, DVD may well have been commonly referred to a Digital Video Disc, the content recorded to the disc is not what made it a DVD otherwise, you could not record data to a DVD. DVD is DVD because of the spefication used to write to it and dye/coating use on the disc. If you have another credible source that disputes this please provide the link as I would be interested in reading. In other words.... just the facts mamm. |

It classifies itself as a DVD bacause of what it is, a Digital Video Disc. I classify it as crap. That explains this trolling. The last sentence is a hint that he is looking for an escape without admitting he was in error. Let him go. It also appears you can read my meaning very well either. At least you admit it. There's hope for you yet. |

If I bring a BD to someone I will ask "can you play a Blu-ray disc", not "can you play a DVD". And I might say a blu-ray dvd. So what. You'd be incorrect, that's what. ROFLMAO. And if I said I had a blu-ray digital video disc would I also be wrong?:-) The only way you'd be right is if you simply said "Blu-ray disc" - or BD for short. |

By everyone, I mean definitions on the web. Google DVD and all definitions I see are Digital Video (Versatile) Disc. So it's not just my definition. You seem to be confusing what DVD stands for with the definition of what a DVD is. A DVD is a optical storage disc written and read with a 650 nm laser. An optical storage disc written/read with a 780 nm laser is called a CD. An optical storage disc written/read with a 405 nm laser is called a BD, or Blu-ray disc. |

The definition (Digital Video/ Versatile Disc) is all over the place. You just don't want to recognize it. I don't know why you keep bringing up some DVD format. Not all DVD's are formatted the same. And just because Sony or some other marketing type has convinced you that they are now not DVD's is your problem. I guess in your mind dram or sram can't both be ram since they are really 2 totally different technologies. I'm done with this. It seems you will will never understand the term DVD can apply to any Digital Video Disc, regardless of the format used to create it. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org My Tivo Experience http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/tivo.htm Tivo HD/S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm AMD cpu help http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php |

Wasn't it originally "digital versatile disc?" I believe it was originally Digital Video Disc. The alternate name came later as I recall. Alan |
