Why do we need plus 1 channels?

Without them a lot of the moaners on here could get their definition back
methinks.

These plus 1 hours channels are very handy if you use them right, you can
see shows in row that you like without miss out.
BUT I would add that if Viginmedia and FreeSat can put most plus 1 ( +1 )
after they real-time channels on the EPG,
Why b$kyb has such messy EPG.with all plus channels all over the place, they
have all the share holders & bankers money?
It would also be handy on DTT to have plus channels in line to help.

I found the +1s to be quite useful.
The watershed means that quite often there are 4 things I want to
watch all on at 21:00, and I can only record 2 things
simultaneously...

That is possible, but its still a waste and one we have apparently not got
the bandwidth to support. After all, not all channels have this extra
channel anyway. With the advent of getting your stuff of the web, and the
reducing costs of pvrs, what is the point really?

I think the loss of the local program variations was a scandal, merely done
to maximize profits from advertising. The sad fact is that advert supported
anything is soon going to be so discredited as a model that most oddball
channels, free websites etc, will fold anyway.

Its a huge con trick. people are now so sophisticated that adverts really do
not get folk to buy things, save maybe the very young.

I suspect it's channel squatting, ie the broadcast equivalent of domain name
squatting. The major companies bought up the frequencies in a panic when
they were offered, thinking they had to have them. Then they found they
hadn't anything to put on them but feared the regulator might remove them if
they didn't, and so came up with the wizard wheeze of showing everything
again, totally pointlessly, one hour later.

Does anyone know the viewing figures for the +1 channels I wonder?

+1 are so the TV Co can fit in more adverts, the purpose of a TV
program isn't to entertain or provide a service, it's to support,
and fill in time between the adverts

+1 doubles advertising time

Err, local progs cost to make and there simply isn't the income from ads
for them anymore. 'Maximizing profits' suggests profits are still being
made.

How are you going to find out about products without advertising? Pay to
