Default Digital switchover question

I've just received the DSO booklet which tells me that my transmitter
is Kilvey and apparently stage one will occur on 13 August when Kilvey
(and its relays) will stop broadcasting BBC2 - the booklet tells me
that at that point I will have to retune my digi boxes.

Likewise for stage 2 on 9 September

My question is this - why will I have to retune? My digi boxes
currently receive the full range of digital channels.

Because they are changing the frequencies that the channels are broadcast
on. AFAIK in most cases they bring all the digital channels back within the
range of the original analog channels, so people who haven't changed their
aerials for digital should get all the digital channels.

Because, in simplistic terms, they could be moving Muxes and channels
about, so you may not be tuned into the correct place for the channel
you want.

Because the frequencies they use to broadcast the multiplexes on are
changing.

Yes, but the three PSB muxes at almost all Tx sites will move to three
of the old four or five analogue allocations, to ensure that communal
receiving systems that are passing analogue channels pre DSO will
continue to do so post DSO.

However, even if the mux frequencies were not changing, you still need
to re-scan because:-

The 16QAM muxes are converting to 64QAM
The channel configs in the post DSO PSB muxes are changing
The PIDs of those channels will probably also change.

In short, regardless of pre DSO reception, all DTT viewers will need
to run a re-scan the day after BBC 2 analogue goes AND the day the
remaining analogues vanish.

OK, thanks for your explanation - it now makes sense to me.
