Ardenne demonstrated the world's first completely electronic television (using a "flying spot scanner") in Berlin in 1931. But Farnsworth's demonstration of electronic television in 1927 was four years earlier than that of Ardenne in 1931. QUOTE Farnsworth was the first of the two inventors [Farnsworth and Zworkin] to successfully demonstrate the transmission of television signals, which he did on September 7, 1927, using a scanning tube of his own design. Farnsworth received a patent for his electron scanning tube in 1930. UNQUOTE |

writes No, you haven't explained. Not at all. What do you think the first live 3D broadcast was if it wasn't this one? Although Aggy is (predictably) completely wrong about how sky's 3d system works (my favourite bit was the magic TV that slows down the image to one eye without glasses - LOL), he IS right about this not being the first live 3dTV broadcast. That distinction goes to (I believe) "Going live" the Saturday morning kids show - the had a 3D day in which they showed the Seal video "Killer on the loose" - which used the pulfrich(sp?) method discussed elsewhere (the quazi-3d effect caused by one dark lens) - the linking segments in the studio were broadcast (live) in red/green anaglyph. The magazine "fast forward" gave away cardboard glasses with 3 lenses - the red/green ones for the bulk of the show, and a 3rd dark lens, to hold over one eye for the seal video. By the way; Aggy, if MPEG is incapable of interlacing 2 different images, would you care to explain how my collection of field sequential 3d DVDs work with shutter glasses? -- Will Tingle - 3D nerd Remove YOUR_PANTS to e-mail |
