... "Graham." wrote in message ... No because they collect stats about what you have been watching, use it for interactive services and premium services such as pay per view. They also want to sell you internet and their own phone system! SKY will install a line for new customers, it is to be announced soon. Are you thick or something? The OP said he had no use for a phone line and never needed one. Why would he go to the cost of getting an phoneline that he doesn't need, just to get Sky's ****ty channel lineup? If you want Sky non-free services and don't have a phone line they will have to install one or (more likely) refuse to provide you with their services. You would think a VoIP would work, especially as it is easy to present a CLI that looks like a landline, but I have tried several times, with more than one provider, but it always fails to handshake properly. Moreover, I have yet to see any verifiable claim that anyone has succeeded in doing this. Oh right, fair enough. I assumed as I can successfully send faxes etc. over VOIP that it would be able to connect to Sky. I don't know if a GSM gateway would work, but I doubt Sky would be fooled by an 07 CLI. That's a good point. -- http://www.kingqueen.org.uk remove .lartsspammers to email |

I've tried Sipgate with a PAP2 using G411 and all the echo suppression turned off but I can't get it to work. It's just an academic exercise, I don't need the facility myself. Any tips? -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

"Al" wrote in message . 4... Hi. I'm looking to get Sky installed at my flat but unfortunately i do not have a landline installed (never needed one) Are you allowed to install a dish? Many fall foul of the 'no external modifications' clause in the leasehold. Al. I've applied to Sunderland council to install a dish as i live in a conservation area so once that (hopefully) comes through i'll be actively looking for the cheapest option to install as i only really want the free channels. |

Is there any way to get Sky installed without a landline. I did discover a forum where the "pay once watch forever" package that i was looking at was discussed and some posters indicated that a fee could be paid to remove the need for a landline but the posters were off a year and a half ago so it may have changed. Any opinions or help would be appreciated. Dave. I think all sky installs require you to have a phone line connected for a year, maybe you could have Freesat installed then if you really want a sky box get a second hand one afterwards. -- There is no god, so stop worrying and enjoy your life. Thanks. I'll have a look for Freesat info as i assume i'll be receiving the same channels as the ones in the "pay once watch forever" package? |

"Ade Evans" wrote in message news ![]() nope, pay £25 and u dont need a phone line. that'll only work if you have just one box I did read about the £25 fee for an installation without landline but the forum posts were a year and a half ago so i couldn't really rely on the same rules/fees applying. |

Can you "borrow" a phone line, on the end of a long extension lead, from a neighbour until the installer leaves? -- Graham. %Profound_observation% Good plan. Maybe the tenant next door will help me out if i get stuck as he has a Virginmedia line. |

Channel Five, Sky 3, Channel 4 HD, Five US, Five US +1, FIVER and FIVER +1 are all encrypted using Sky's proprietary system that Sky refuse to release a CAM for, so those channels can only be decrypted using a proprietary Sky Digibox. They are "free to view" channels as opposed to "free to air" which is what Freesat's lineup is. HTH. Correct apart from Channel Five, that is available on a Freesat box. -- There is no god, so stop worrying and enjoy your life. |

So you should be considering buying a free to air DVB-s/MPEG-2 + DVB-s2/MPEG-4, plus a rotor if you want hundreds more non-English language stations (although some of them sometimes carry English soundtrack or English subtitles) received and just forget about giving any money to B$kyB. |
