Default Sky without phone line

Hi. I'm looking to get Sky installed at my flat but unfortunately i do not
have a landline installed (never needed one) - but all the Sky offers
available seem to insist that a landline is required. Is there any way to
get Sky installed without a landline. I did discover a forum where the "pay
once watch forever" package that i was looking at was discussed and some
posters indicated that a fee could be paid to remove the need for a landline
but the posters were off a year and a half ago so it may have changed. Any
opinions or help would be appreciated. Dave.

I think all sky installs require you to have a phone line connected for a
year, maybe you could have Freesat installed then if you really want a sky
box get a second hand one afterwards.

Can you "borrow" a phone line, on the end of a long extension lead,
from a neighbour until the installer leaves?

No because they collect stats about what you have been watching, use it for
interactive services and premium services such as pay per view.
They also want to sell you internet and their own phone system!
SKY will install a line for new customers, it is to be announced soon.

So?

The OP didn't ask how he could avoid being in breach of contract
with Sky, he just wants the installation done.
It is well known that Sky do not bother customers who's boxes
do not connect in the first 12 months even though that is a contractual
requirement. It would not be in their intrest to do so.

Subsidised Multiroom customers *are* actively policed, and
if both boxes don't call back regularly from the same CLI the customer gets
a threatening letter.

Are you allowed to install a dish? Many fall foul of the 'no external
modifications' clause in the leasehold.

Are you thick or something? The OP said he had no use for a phone line and
never needed one. Why would he go to the cost of getting an phoneline that
he doesn't need, just to get Sky's ****ty channel lineup?

Alternative thinking: do you have an Internet connection there? Then
you can get an analogue VOIP connector (an ATA), or borrow one for
the time that the Sky engineer is there.

Alternatively I know you can get adapters that allow conventional
phones to be connected to mobile phone networks, but I suspect the
cost would be prohibitive.

You would think a VoIP would work, especially as it is easy to
present a CLI that looks like a landline, but I have tried several
times, with more than one provider, but it always fails to handshake
properly.
Moreover, I have yet to see any verifiable claim that anyone has
succeeded in doing this.

I don't know if a GSM gateway would work, but I doubt Sky
would be fooled by an 07 CLI.
