Is there a converter box that will convert ATSC TVGuide data to analog NTSC
for legacy equipment?

I understand the DTVpal is supposed to do this, but reports are that it does
not work.

All the "converter" boxes will let you access information about the
channel. Check your manual ;-)

That's not what the OP was asking about. TVGuide On Screen, a.k.a.
TVGOS, is a program guide service that some receivers can use to see
what's on and schedule recordings up to 8 days in the future. It is
unrelated to (and better than) the PSIP guide that digital channels
are supposed to transmit. It was originally transmitted by one or two
analog channels in an area. There is now a digital version, but most
older receivers cannot use it. They need an analog signal with the
proper version of data on it. So the plan is to feed all of the older
versions (there have been 8) in a digital stream that a converter box
could include in its analog output. The Echostar TR-40/DTVPal claims
to do that; AFAIK it's the only converter that does.

It's too early to tell if the DTVPal will do the job because stations
are only now starting to send the required bitstream. Given the
DTVPal's (and Gemstar's) many other screwups I'm not convinced this
will go off without a hitch. There are several threads on AVSForum
discussing it. Google AVSForum, DTVPal and TVGOS to find them.

Yahoo TV won't cut it? You're using a computer to get here. I use
Yahoo TV all the time as it's more accurate than TV Guide (girl at
work uses TV Guide and tells me its wrong fairly often).
