I bit the bullet and bought a 37" widescreen 1080i ( not from Comet of
course) and I spent a good while setting up and adjusting so actors no longer appear to be of the Dale Winton or Tango schools ( tall thin and orangey or very short fat and orangey) and I am very satisfied with the results. Apart from when playing DVD's I do have a lot of NTSC widescreen which play thro' a region 2 device hacked to be region free ok on the old 4:3 CRT usual letterbox but annoyingly in on the new dgital they are in a 16:9 letter box with a black surrounding reduing the screen size markedly. I guess thats because the PAL player cannot interpret the NTSC screen format signal correctly so question is as I have to upgrade should I be looking for a player capable of upscaling so the "widescreen none HD" media will play correctly or would any decent region free DVD do this anyway? Your DVD player will have a setting for the display type. If you previously had a 4:3 set but now have a 16:9 one, you will need to change this setting. |

Managed to find the manual online and you are on the money I had been trying to find a setting with a DVD in the drive, it works when empty and displays an OSD menu simple really I should have guessed. DerekW are you sure you're not playing non anamorphic dvds? - if so you'd need to put the tv into zoom mode. they are just old dvds that were not mastered to appear full resolution on a 16:9 screen. -- Gareth. that fly...... is your magic wand.... |
