Pioneer not a brand you see in shops often, I tend to think of then as a
high end price model.

Thought they might be related to Panasonic are they, or other brand(s)?

Pioneer is a manufacturer, not just a brand and has nothing to do with
Panasonic.

Not that I'm aware of. They were big in the laserdisc days, and did a lot of
car stereo stuff. I have never owned a video product from them, but they had
a very good name for reliability in electronics generally.

I use an excellent Pioneer AV receiver/decoder, and I would imagine
they'll stay in that market.

Not true. Pioneer struck a deal with Panasonic for it to supply its
plasma panels last year, Pioneer still handling the Kuro electronics.
Looks like that's fallen by the wayside. My eyesight isn't brilliant,
but I could never see what the real difference was between something
like a Panasonic panel and a Pioneer, certainly not worth paying double
for, that's for sure.

I was refering to ownership of the company, you'd probably be surprised at
the number of trades between companys.

I've had plenty of Pioneer stuff, all of very high quality. Best item
I had was a car stereo cassette player. Virtually zero wow & flutter,
nearly matched CD for sound quality & radio reception, when fed with a
good signal, was flawless. Still got my Pioneer CLD925 Laserdisc
player.

And me! Was actually a replacement for my Pioneer 2950 model. Fantastic bits
of kit! My DVD player is a multi-region Pioneer 868, my previous 2 players
were Pioneers as well.
