Performed a rescan on my Topfield last night so that all those
exciting(?)new channels (dave+1, quest, cnn etc) would show up in the channel list. I used to have a fairly familiar ordering of channels such BBC1(1), BBC2(2), ITV1(3) CH4(4), CH5(5), BBCNEWS(80) etc. Now I have something like BBC1(1014), BBC2(1013), CH4(something else), CH5(5), BBCNEWS(some other number that I can't remember). Any idea why this has happened ? Oh, it's the Mendip transmitter if that helps. |

Oh, it's the Mendip transmitter if that helps. Nothing to do with Mendip. You're suffering from a split NIT (oo-er, missus ...), and you can't have done a rescan in recent months or you'd have had this before. You need to upgrade the Topfield's firmware. Make an appointment at your earliest convenience at www.toppy.org.uk. You're looking for the NITfix patched firmware This is a rather laconic reply, since I don't know whether you already frequent the excellent Toppy site, whether you've upgraded firmware via a PC before etc. etc. Probably best to ask for more details, if necessary, on the forums at www.toppy.org.uk, where friendly help and advice awaits. I used R2-D2's patched version of 5.13.65 and all is now well. Note I have a 5800, not a newer 5810. -- Mark Myers usenet at mcm2007 dot plus dot com I call that a radical interpretation of the text. |

Thanks for the tips. I went to the Topfield site and downloaded the
latest firmware and then burnt it to the Toppy. Seems to be working fine. Channel numbering is as it should be, series link now exists and fast forward / rewind now goes in much more sensibler steps of 2, 4 & 8. |

My Topfield does rewind a 1, 2, 3 and FF at 2, 4 & 6. T |

The Topfield series link firmware is not highly regarded and the latest is far from the best. Many of the 'regulars' in the Toppy.org site stick to the older 5.13.65 firmware (for the 5800 machine) with Nitfix and other bug fix patches. TAPs can be used for series link functionality. -- Alan news2006 {at} amac {dot} f2s {dot} com |

My Topfield does rewind a 1, 2, 3 and FF at 2, 4 & 6. T I downloaded from Topfield.co.uk FF 2,4,8 RW 2,4,8 Which to me seems much better. The firmware at Topfield.co.uk isn't necessarily bug free- but a LOT better than that available from the Toppy Korean site. The UK distributor incorporated some bug fixes implemented by customers to improve reliability but there are more bug fixes that can be applied to make the machine more reliable. These are available from www.toppy.org.uk which is user support site.
