Default Shopping around but am still unsure

Still, the idea of shipping a large fragile TV makes me a bit queasy.
You're going to end up paying sales tax anyway,

Why?

Sony will add it to your bill.

Depends what state your are in. If an online vendor has a physical store
or business office in your state, they will add sales tax. Many online
vendors, such as Amazon, have NO physical stores and add NO sales tax.
Most are cheaper than Sony, too. For example, the KDL-32M4000 is $599
including shipping at Amazon.com. It sells for $749 plus tax from Sony.
It's $649 including shipping from Vann's.

Nobody buys online through Sony.

| How about the top of ther plasma heap--say 37"-42" ??

Ahhh...
But are they "top of the heap?" :)

The 42" and 46" plasma models are topped by Panasonics. Larger 50" and 58"
ratings are topped by Samsung and Pioneer.

CR recommended a 32" Insignia plasma at $500, nothing else, less than a
42" screen.

In 42" plasmas, it was Panasonic $900, LG $1000, Hitachi $1200, and
Samsung $800.

And are they gonna put pillar bars on all STANDARD 16:9 broadcasts, or
are they gonna stretch it? They are very vague:

"Using highly advanced formatting technology, regular 16:9 content from
sources such as TV broadcasts and games consoles is also adapted to fill
the 21:9 screen."

One caveat: the Insignia got a pretty low rating score but as you say it was
the only one tested.

Thanks!!

If you're interested in one of the above, you should let lws, me or
someone look up the model no.'s for you.

And I hope you noted his comment about the rating on the smaller
Insignia plasma not being very high.

Yeah, I read that part about their 'highly advanced formatting
technology' business and I recall wondering what's the point? I'll
never need it. I'd have to be sure I could turn that business off.
