I've been shopping around at several of the electronics stores in the
area (and online, but mostly offline as S&H would be ungodly
expensive) for a decent LCD HDTV but am still not sure which look best
to me. I am looking for a 40"+ tv (and some satellite speakers) and
have approx $2k to spend. I'd be interested in hearing some
suggestions you might have as to which tvs, specifically, I should be
looking at.

thnx,

I bought a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV from Amazon with free shipping and no
sales tax six months ago, that I am extremely happy with.

However, with the money you have to spend, Samsung has 3 later series out
now with more features, that you would probably prefer. Also, if it
matters to you, they have some series that are better in rooms with a lot
of light. That's what I have, and the one I chose has been perfect for
me. Good luck in your search!

My aunt bought a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV, it had 3 HDMI, 2 Composite and one
S-video/Composite with shared audio. If you have a lot of older A/V
peripherals that use S-Video or Composite, you will have to swap cables each
time you use them.

I personally have two Panasonic Viera 42" Plasma TVs, and they both have two
of each input.

CompUSA has a 42" 1080p AOC set on sale for $697. Buy 2 or 3 and forget
the warranty.

CompUSA still around? I thought they went bankrupt, and got taken over by
Staples. But that's a damn good price for a 1080p 42", I wonder if it's a
refurb.

Sony's been offering free shipping on their TVs from time to time. Just
checked and they're doing it right now. http://www.sonystyle.com/

Still, the idea of shipping a large fragile TV makes me a bit queasy.
You're going to end up paying sales tax anyway,

Why?

You pay sales tax on any online purchase where the vendor has a brick and
mortar presence where you live.

I was talking about the retail stores, but the online store was taken over
SystemMax, which took over a couple of TigerDirect online/catalog store like
Global Computer. Global Computer which was also owned by Circuit City at
one point, was sold to TigerDirect.

I guess it would be Panasonic, they seem to have more Plasmas in their
lineup.

They have 23 0r 24 stores left, mostly in Florida. My brother has one

The 42" and 46" plasma models are topped by Panasonics. Larger 50" and 58"
ratings are topped by Samsung and Pioneer.
