None of the options corrects this, whereas, say, the picture from my dvd recorder etc can be easily made to look the correct resolution, even and including the same digital channels. it seems at times that the people onscreen have egg shaped heads etc, it's pretty annoying. I find any sort of aspect distortion incredibly annoying. If a zoom needs to be applied then it must be the same in both hoz and vertical. Any other zooms that distort things so that a square appears wider or narrower than it's height should be banned on TVs. But most other people seem completely unbothered. -- Bartc well I was busy when that van dyke was on this afternoon but it appears with black lines left and right and no settings can change that, except to make it taller still. If you mean 4:3 shown in the centre of a 16:9 display, I don't have a problem with that; at least you're seeing all it is possible to see of the original presentation. (Unlike, say, TCM on Virginmedia showing a 2.2:1 movie as letterbox inside a 4:3 frame with black bars top and bottom, which is itself shown on the 16:9 display with black bars left and right, at the lowest bitrate possible.) What you want is a zoom control that does exactly that: magnifies the picture so it fills the screen sideways, but also magnifies vertically so that some picture detail is lost. The correct aspect will be maintained however. Either that or little curtains on your TV that adjust depending on whether you're watching 16:9 or 4:3. -- Bartc heh, but the zoom is doing nothing to it. The exact same image through my dvd recorder digital tuner fills the screen pretty much as it should, as does the analogue BBC1 -- Paul (We won't die of devotion) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

Switch to 16:9 mode instead of Zoom. like I said, I have tried all settings. I actually don;t like the zooms etc, so I always have it set to widescreen. sometimes despite this I even get an actual square box, that Dick Van Dyke prog does it. Some programs are a 4:3 box in a 16:9 picture - happens with old pop videos on some music channels. Have you selected text when there isn't any. Are you using a fully wired Scart? Every channel which will accept settings is set to widescreen. -- Paul (We won't die of devotion) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

Sounds like a faulty tuner. Our 5403D works fine, so back to the retailer it is. |

I know littlewoods would probably get funny with me anyway, they usually do, so maybe this is the best way round. -- Paul (We won't die of devotion) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |
