That rules out ITV1 and BBC1 then. (Bingo and Lottery) ;-)

I agree, the plus 1 channels are somehow pointless now anyway in my view.
I've not actually met anyone who admits they use them.
Maybe they just do not know they are using them, if so, then this is
obviously the calibre of viewer who is preferred these days.

Dave+1 ? Another criminal waste of bandwidth if true. Ofcom really are
useless.

I've admitted to using CH4+1 between 8 and 9pm on weeknights. Does that make
me a bad person?

We recorded it without realising one time.

Sorry, we'll take more care in future.

Of course not. It's when the main news _should_ be on.

I've occasionally used +1 channels to record two programmes that would
otherwise have been on simultaneously, and at least once I've forgotten
to record something and remembered it within the hour, so caught it on +1.

I imagine Ofcom have no control over how a multi-channel company use
their bandwidth

Why not? We are constantly told that spectrum is a scare national
resource. In that case 'the public good' should figure largely in any
considerations about its use. If I was the dictator of Britain I would
make it illegal to broadcast any sound or vision at bitrates below those
decided by a committe of engineers. I would also make it illegal to
broadcast on any given platform --
-- more than two shopping channels
-- any channels featuring gambling
-- more than two porn channels (and these to operate after midnight only)
-- more than three pop video channels
-- more than two channels per ethnicity
-- any +1 etc channels.

All channels would have to follow certain requirements. These would
include ad breaks of reasonable length, absolutely no squeezing of
credits, absolutely no interruption of programmes to plug other
programmes. Poor technical standards would quickly lead to the channel
being prohibited.

The five main PSB channels would be even more rigorously controlled.

Whilst I agreed with most of your assertions Gordon (well you did say you
were dictator of Britain), may I plead dispensation for CH4+1?
Otherwise the wife and I couldn't watch CH4 news at 8pm after we've got the
kids in their beds, and are eating our supper :-)- Hide quoted text -

Videotape or a PVR would cure that!

Is the Channel 4 news on the Channel 4 website for downloading?

Alternatively, put them to bed earlier or later!

Perhaps you should have thought about it before having them!!
