Default Sky box auto shutdown nonsense

And do you address the point about Sky adding a technical fault to users'
hardware without consent?

Too many users wouldn't know how to upgrade the software if told to do it
manually. Equally users wouldn't like to find that they start to get
faults which others have already found and SKY have fixed. So SKY fix them
and load the new software in the background. It's no different from having
your PC set up to autoload updates.

What more little icons on the screen? ;-)))

If only it were like Windows Update, which you can configure appropriately.

And when a Windows PC screws up, at least you can roll back to earlier
software.

I wish there was some way of getting rid of the RED DOT that appears
in the top right corner at times . No matter how often you press
backup it keeps coming back

I found the best way to get rid of the Sky RED DOT and Sky DOG **** was to
unsubscribe to Sky. Since I cancelled my monthly donation to Sky, this has
resolved both technical faults to our satisfaction.

But I don't have a sub to Sky and it's not a Sky Red Dot anyway .It
can be the one on the BBC News or the other night there was one on
another FTA channel. Can't remember what it was but it was extremely
persistent. Might have been one of the ITV channels .

Sorry mate. Went through all these problems in the early part of the 20-00s.

Mr Topfield has solved my TV-broadcast reception problems.

Thankfully, these newsgroups had pre-warned me of the forthcoming "problem".

Twice yesterday, my (Grundig) "Sky" receiver, who's only function is to feed
Bloomberg TV round my home/office, shut its self down.

Who the **** do Sky think they are shutting down devices in peoples' homes
without so much as a formal letter of notice or the basic courtesy of asking
for consent? (Rhetorical question).

After about 2 mins, I found out how to disable this unwanted sabotage of my
Sky receiver.

I can imagine across the country in gyms, restaurants, offices, and schools,
many others are struggling with this newly created technical fault.

One thing that happened to my Pace and of those in the DS thread I
linked earlier, a few days later the software was reversed so the
'feature' went anyway.

Oh, and one other thing it does, which will make Conor look like the
**** he appears to be, is that it gives you audio dropouts about once
every 15 mins - which went away when they reversed the software. A
royal ****ing pain, that one.
