Hi

Not sure if this is a good ng to ask...

I've just bought one of the above players which was bundled with Cyberlink's
PowerDVD v7.3.
On the PowerDVD help page it says, "Thank you etc, you only have a 2CH
version. Upgrade now." But, in the config screen I can select 6CH and it
sounds just right.

Also available is a recommended patch, which I have downloaded but not
installed. Question is, will this patch make the player 2CH only?

Is it really 6ch or is it just your audio system doing a clever upmix?
Maybe you could search for some freeware tool that lets you probe the
format of the file?

Test it, then deinstall and reinstall if necessary?

Actually, no. I've just run a test DVD and it seems to be correct for
front-L, centre, front-R, and sub. But both rears come on during the rear-L
and rear-R test.

I seem to recall reading that someone said that if you have SPDIF out (my PC
doesn't yet) then PowerDVD will output this correctly. Adding a sound card
with SPDIF should be cheaper than an upgrade of PowerDVD.

Probably the only option.
Ta.
