Default Seeking a reliable and non-rubbishy HD recorder

[Crossposted to uk.tech.tv.video.pvr, which seems to be pretty
moribund.]

First we had a Thomson box. It was fine. Then the PSU stopped working,
and it looked like I'd need to buy a Grundig PSU, and mess about with
lower-profile capacitors etc to get it working.

So I got one from Maplin, that rejoiced in the name "Vulva" (OK, I think
it was "Voava"). It was a bit rubbish; it was very complex to use. Then
one of the TV tuners stopped working. Then it stopped working
completely.

So I took it back to Maplin, and got a Daewoo. It's rubbish. It crashes
all the time, it splits programmes into two, or fails to record half of
them, and it has a nasty-to-use interface. Also, it buzzes in a horrid
plastic way.

So I'm going to take it back.

What should I buy that will work reliably, that is easy to use, and has
two tuners?

Thanks,

Daniele

Topfield TF5800, and put the free MyStuff TAP on it.

I've owned a Humax PVR 9200 since July 2007, I had about three lockups in
the first couple of months but since then it's behaved perfectly and I've
been really pleased with it, in fact so much so that in September I
purchased a PVR 9300 which for various reasons I don't like anywhere near as
much, I now wish I'd have saved myself 30 plus quid and bought another 9200
instead.

Humax PVR9200T if you can find one.
Apparently the 9300 and 9150 aren't quite as nice.

Mine has been excellent and very reliable , plus dead simple to use which is
always a bonus.

Topfield. Mine hasn't missed a beat in some 3 years - and also has better
tuners than any of the other FreeView boxes I have.

You can also use free aftermarket software - although I've not felt the
need for this.

You are badly missing out if you haven't put MyStuff on there.

Reminds me of the pop singer whose name I always read as "Dildo" when it
appears on my tv screen.

There are only two to consider: the Humax 9200 and the Topfield 5800. In
fact, they are both based on the same reference design.

Go on, then. Convince me.

That wouldn't be Jan Dildo the well-known murdered TV presenter, would it?
