Gosh, with aioe nobody knows who you are. Weather good in Morley
today?

How can you tell that? I can't find anything like an IP address in his
headers...

The IP address in the nntp-posting-host header is munged by aioe with an
algorithm that presumably only they know how to reverse, but posts made
just a few days apart from a given IP usually get munged to the same text
string. So if you have the means to search the headers that are stored by
offline newsreader...

I don't know, but I'd guess that tree light flashers could cause some
interference.

But where do they get the power under their macs?

Does the colour of the tinsel make any difference? Can I compensate for
any effect the tinsel might have with a booster?

Henry Smidgeon.

I suppose tinsel could affect it if cut to the right wavelength (I read
somewhere in 1/4 wavelengths) but more affective if thrown out of WWII
bombers in handfuls. ;-)

Thank you. A sensible answer at last. I shall ensure that my tinsel is
plastic. I do not have a multimeter but I do have a car battery. I shall
take this with me to Asda along with a set of jump leads and test all the
tinsel products for conductivity. I should get a fairly positive result from
the experiment I should think if I attach the crocodile clips to the sample
with a spacing of about three feet.

It might be a negative result if you get the wires the wrong way round.

I always find Christmas very stressful, so this year I'm trying to deal
with the problems well in advance. I've booked the dogs into the kennels
and the cats in the cattery. I plan to comment unkindly on the wife's
figure on the 20th Dec, which should mean that she goes home to her
mother's for the festive season. The children will remain at boarding
school over the holiday. This was expensive but well worth it. I have
emailed everyone I know telling them (untruthfully) that I will be away
over Christmas, so there's no point in coming round for a sherry. However,
just in case I have rigged up a CCTV camera looking down the drive so I can
get behind the settee if anyone does turn up.

With a bit of luck there should be just me at home, and being a rather
jolly and gregarious sort of chap (though I say it myself) I intend to
have a really nice Christmas. One thing I'd like to do is put tinsel on
the TV aerial, which is on top of the television set. However one of the
chaps in my therapy group told everyone that doing this had precipitated
his first breakdown. When he put the TV on for The Queen his reception was
very poor. His mother in law was, apparently, harshly critical of him
because he'd festooned the aerial with tinsel, and she claimed that the
metallic content of this decorative material had affected the tuning,
matching, and directional qualities of the aerial. It seems that in her
youth she had worked for the BBC Engineering Information Dept as a tea
lady, and had picked up various facts by osmosis. Anyway,he only got three
years because the judge agreed that he couldn't have anticipated her death
as a result of what he did with the Christmas tree.

So really, I was wondering if you wise chaps could help out. Is it true
that tinsel can affect your reception? If so, is it the same for digital?

Apparently it can ruin WiFi performance...

So if I put tinsel all over the outside of the house my WiFi
will be more secure? That's brilliant.

Could well do, but nothing is going to make WEP any good. Stick
to WPA2 and you should be fine for now.

(A number of hotels etc with hotspots have found that range and
speed is decreased when the decorations are up!)

If anyone reading gets the CPC mailers, you'll have the atrocious
Christmas lights one by now. I'm thinking I'll be more tasteful and
just have tinsel instead...

Due to the mix of junk here, I'm still on WEP but restricted to MAC
addresses. If anyone within range actually knew what it meant it
would be a problem, but I'm not overly concerned.

Just need to discover which colour distorts the signal more.

Haven't got mine yet. Though sometimes they send the mailers to my
old address that I left 3 years ago.
