Default Antenna & Cable on same coax?

My Samsung and many others have connections for simultaneous cable and OTA
input. I have an antenna and cable and use both sources.

I have not seen one that allows QUAM *and* (other) to be set at the same

I do _not_ know if it can do QAM and ATSC in the same scan.

QAM *is* ATSC. It is just cable's way of modulating ATSC signals
versus OTA's 8VSB modulation of ATSC signals.

Yes _but_ until I see it actually work that way or hear from somebody
I trust who has seen it work, I _don't_ don't tell somebody is _does_
work even if it 'should'.

Huh? I was only commenting on your above statement concerning QAM & ATSC.
QAM *is* ATSC. QAM is only a modulation method of ATSC. You would have
been more accurate stating "I do _not_ know if it can do QAM and 8VSB in
the same scan", as they are both ATSC modulation methods.

I agree with you on this Steve.

I definitely have to choose either cable or OTA on my two hdtv sets.

But I do think it sucks and wish it were not so.

Make and model?

El cheapo Sanyo 32" lcd that you can buy at Wal-Mart (like the one I
bought a couple years ago). Pretty much anything you can buy at amazon.
All you have to do is find some owner's manuals and you'll see.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG
WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

I have 2 HDTV bought at Amazon and I CAN NOT RUN EITHER OF THEM IN
CABLE AND ANTENNA MODE AT THE SAME TIME .

The discusion is ABOUT using Cable and an Antenna at the same time without a
STB.

I have set up many common brands of HDTV. all have a choice that MUST be made
before scanning for signals.

I don't know what kind of TVs you "set up," but I defy you to find one
that doesn't do both analog and digital simultaneously.

When running Over The Air (Antenna) it is required by law.

That is my definition of must Pick one at setup.
Nothing prevents you from "setup" every time you change tuner mode, it is only
a PITA

That's my definition as well, but no TV sold today (or even lately)
behaves in such a PITA way.
