How do I record TV from the AV out of my Thomson HD recorder onto DVD
using my PC's DVD recorder?

I'm assuming the AV out from the HD box is an analogue video signal,
and that I need software to convert that to digital video. Any ideas
what the best software is, or how else to do all this please?

Thanks in advance.

A PCI etc card that has analogue video inputs will normally come with such
software? If your computer hasn't already got this?

If the AV out is normal SD then yes, you need hardware and software, but
it would probably be much easier to buy an analogue PVR or DVD recorder,
just look for one that doesn't have Freeview.

Digital video is hard to work with and often just doesn't work. I have
just about managed to get SD video from my camcorder onto a DVD, when we
tried with a friends (similar) camcorder it wouldn't work, and again
loads of problems trying to get stuff from a older DVD camcorder. We
did this on a Mac which is supposed to good at this stuff. I ended up
with about 6 new bits of software between a PC and a MAC to get things
converted, in the process I ended up with several other 'download on
demand' stuff and a tonne of new menu items.
