"Malcolm H" wrote in message ... wrote in message ... Is it worth getting Freesat or sticking with Freeview? Get "Freesat from Sky". Still no subscription and total equipment/installation cost £75. See: http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/pay-once.aspx Doing Freesat will cost a lot more that £75 Go for the Argos 4 month 4 pack deal http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5321502/c_1/1|category_root|Home+entertainment+and+sat+nav|101 99181/c_2/2|cat_10199181|Digital+boxes+and+services|10199362 .htm but don't forget to cancel the packs after 4 months, which will then leave you with FreeSatfromSky which will give you far more tat TV channels than Freeview with it's very limited number of MUXs ever will And loads of radio channels you'll never want to listen to Steve Terry |

The *real* price for FreesatFromSky is £150. You are referring to Pay Once Watch Forever, yet another Sky con-name: 1) "you get over 230 free digital channels and *4 months* of Sky TVs most popular entertainment mixes." So it's not PayOnceWatchForEver, it PayOnceWatchFor4Months. 2) Further, looking at the four Sky packages available on 4 months free trial, I cannot see a single HD channel, even for the limited 4 months, much less permanently. So I presume that this doesn't include HD, which, as with FreesatFromSky, would only be available through the extra expense, trouble, and some uncertainty of finding a used Sky+ box from somewhere like eBay. Sky+ PVR functionality is also not available via either option, whereas it will shortly be from Freesat as and when kit becomes available. And Lidl regularly have offers of full DIY kit, though AFAIAA SD, for about £60. Maybe cable different again too. |

You will be left with 'over 230 free channels' including all the BBC and ITV channels, Ch.4 and FIVE. |

It took ages to call and even longer to get the cancellation done. It was quite intimidating. Has it changed at all or is there still some inertia-selling going on? Yes, I believe the only way is to telephone and yes, it can be frustrating - but you only have to do it once! |

So it's not PayOnceWatchForEver, it PayOnceWatchFor4Months. All you have to do is remember to cancel the 'Entertainment mixes' before 4 months have passed. Like most Sky promotions, it's deliberately misleading. Like choosing "FreeToView" and "Freesat From Sky" as brand names to compete with "Freeview" and "Freesat", it's a deliberate muddying of the waters, a deliberate sowing of confusion. The impression given to a casual glance is that £75 gets you everything listed FOR EVER, why do you think they chose those actual words? It's only when you read the small print that it becomes apparent that for those channels you might actually want to watch, it's actually PayOnceWatchFor4Months. And, has already been pointed out, you have to remember to cancel - I wonder how many actually forget, and end up paying subscription for a while - and the cancellation process itself is somewhat tortuous. You will be left with 'over 230 free channels' including all the BBC and ITV channels, Ch.4 and FIVE. Noone can possibly watch 230 channels, there aren't enough hours in the day - what matters is quality, not quantity. Considering the channels with any sort of claim to quality, the *only* real advantage is the presence of Five, and even that may not be for long, though, amid the current conflicting reports, how long seems to be anybody's guess. Meanwhile, it's already available to most people in the UK via analogue terrestrial, while the worthwhile ones among the rest are also either already available via Freeview/Freesat/FTA or seemingly dross. |

Or even worse, that some stations for which you are paying eg Deutsche Welle TV are available FTA on another satellite (Astra 19,2 East). Rupert Murdoch did not become a billionaire other than through such devious methods. |

If everyone cancelled they would make a loss on the deal and it would be withdrawn. This may suggest that the majority of people don't cancel. -- Alan news2006 {at} amac {dot} f2s {dot} com |
