Default Query re set up of VCR, HD Recorder & TV?

Hi,
Have just taken delivery of a new VCR , a replacement for the
previous one which has failed. I simply switched the Aerial In and RF
out from the previous video, nothing complicated. The video is then
connected to the HD recorder and on to the TV.

The VCR setup requires setting the TV to Channel 35 upon which the
prerecorded tape placed in the VCR should appear. It does not.

In this case I am told the RF converter should be reset to a channel
between 22 and 69. Not quite sure what that means.

I have played a tape in the VCR and run a complete search from the TV
of all incoming signals, none of them are the VCR.

I will recheck on a portable TV tomorrow but if that does not work,
can I take it the VCR is dodgy?

Never had a problem in past setups. Have I missed something
somewhere?

Thanks

I take it you've already tried the obvious and connected the VCR to the TV
via the SCART so that you can display the menu to find out if the RF output
is switched off and also so that you can set the RF output to a clear
channel?

I hadn't - it sounds a good idea. Thanks for the advice.

And good advice it was. That was the problem - no RF output.
Thank you

First thing to do here is take out all items except tv and vcr. Plug vcr to
tv, play tape tune tv.
If no signal, and no patterning on analog ch5 (grin) then your modulator is
not working. One is forced to ask why are you using aerial signals in any
case here as scart switchers and multi socket systems seem to be readily
available and the picture will be better and sound in stereo.

The system was set up in the days before I was aware of multi Scart
switches. I shall take a look and see if I can fit them into my
present set up. The TV, DVD, HD Freeview box and VCR are on three
levels within a designer cupboard. Unless I want to start taking out
shelves and sawing holes in suitable place, I'm not sure I need the
hassle of doing that and sorting out the jumble of cables therein.
Thanks for the suggestion though, I shall certainly explore the
possibility.
