I am currently shopping for a 46 inch LCD.
Some of the models have USB ports and some do not. Exactly how could I use a USB port on a TV? PS-I am over the hill in age definitely not a geek. Thanks. |

Mine is used for software updates. You download the latest tv firmware on your computer, copy it to a usb memory stick, then plug that into the tv to update. Follow the tv menus. |

I imagine (nil experience) you could use it for viewing photos via Pictbridge from a digital camera, or watching anything loaded onto a thumbdrive., or even an external hard drive. |

I have a Samsung HDTV. *It will accept a thumbdrive with firmware upgrades or photo's. *The manual says it is not compatable with all devices. *I tried to use a USB/Compact Flash adaptor, and the TV did not recognize it as a valid device. *I suspect it would reject a hard drive also. -Bill I thought of that--may lack the processor ability for some more difficult things. But worth a try. |

It depends on the TV. You will have to check the User Manual for the TV for the specific options supported. My Samsung TV supports playing MP3 music files, displaying JPG photographic files andf updating the firmware from a USB Flash drive. However the manual says it is limited to specific devices which have been formatted as FAT16/32. I got it working with 2 GB Flash Drive but not 4GB or 16 GB ones and USB Hard Drives aren't supported.. |
