Thanks all. Richer Sounds have both the 656 and 686 but the guy I
spoke to seemed pretty clueless on the differences (except the 686 is
50 quid or so more). Kev what you say fits with the little I know,
i.e. its just cosmetic.

Just to confuse the issue even more, I note Lewises have similar
models with an "M1" suffix which I'm guessing is either something to
do eitgher with PC compatibiity or a stand. Jeez...

Ah, really useful link thank you! Either Richer Sounds really ought to
be reported to trading standards, or they have restocked. Very tempted
to find out. Meanwhile Pixmania do the 686 even cheaper at the moment,
but of course there's an advantage in buying from a local store...
