Default Toshiba LCD probs

had a Sony 32" CRT for 12 years not a problem all its life until one gun
started to play up.

Then bought a Toshiba 40" LCD in January, the first one went back in 7 days
with pixel problems and now its replacement has an 80mm wide band down the
left side. OK an engineer is supposed to be coming out (what for I do not
know) but how much longer will it or a replacement last beyond the 12 month
warranty..........I have no faith.

I knew I should have stuck with Sony :-(

Why? Sony buy in components or licence their name to be used. As with a
lot
of electrical items - past performance is no guarantee of future quality or
performance. Manufacturers are cutting costs all the time and it always
depends
who you bought the TV from and who delivered it.
Should have bought a Samsung.

Hindsight and that word FREE........

I purchased it for £900 when JL wanted and still want £1300 for the same
model. And that 5 years is probably the standard 1 + 4 so that makes it £100
per year insurance......would you or anyone have considered that to be
acceptable.

Anyway, Tosh are sending out an engineer next week.

Bloody sods law I threw the box out only 2 weeks ago.....must have been
jinxed.

Oh and yes, JL is my favourite high street shop, first port of call for
goods and their restaurant in particular. The staff being the owners are
always most helpful.

John Lewis will price match high street prices, they certainly did for me.
As for Toshiba, they are a very good company to deal with. I had a problem
with a 3 year old TV and when I called them to ask what could be wrong, it
was a known fault so they sent someone out to fix it free of charge and the
TV was 2 years out of warranty. That's my experience anyway.

interesting....

actually their technical department were very good when I had a pixel
problem from new. He contacted the net shop I purchased it from and TOLD
them to replace it.

not sure on that price matching bit cos many will not match internet prices
and what I have found is that they will change the model number slightly,
even though it is the very same machine, so that they can then say its not
the same model.....found that with washing machines especially.

Often these problems stem from stress put on the lcd in the case. If its
under some flex ing tension, it will fail sooner. Of course other handling
can shorten the life too. Hard to tell about any particular model. It could
be a model fault or just a batch of bad screens.
I've heard good things about Panasonic, but none of the lcds have been
around anywhere near long enough to get a real view as yet.
