Will a HDTV accept the coaxial cable from a digital cable box and
display a digital picture ? Are there RCA plug ports ( red white yellow) ( such as the ps2 uses ) on all hdtvs I don't see any listing for these ports in the product descriptions. Anyone play back VCR tapes thru a HDTV using the coaxial cable, any problems ? Sorry for all the questions. SD |

Any signal going to through a coax or the yellow video cable will
be Standard Definition. High Definition signals need either the HDMI or Component cable. |

No However if you were to plug in the coax directly from the wall to the TV ( bypassing the cable box) you will get digital channels such as the major networks and their subchannels ( channels you were to get OTA). because the cable companies just pass these through. |

My roof antenna is connected to coax which is then connected to my coax dual
Digital/Standard Tuner connection. On my TV I get both digital/HD as well as standard TV. HDTV signal quality is excellent. So yes you can connect an antenna to a digital tuner thru coax. However, They recommend HDMI or Component (&audio) to connect other equipment to maintain the full quality of the signal. Regardless, the picture can be no better than the quality that the TV is capable of. Mr Ed There is a difference when the signal arriving via cable carrier on their coax is first received by a cableco STB or DVR - the digital signal is not passed on by their receivers. The set must be connected by HDMI or component to view digital programming. Of course, unencrypted QAM signals can be received directly by a QAM equipped TV without the need of an STB. |

That isn't exactly true. You MUST use the HDMI or component outputs if you want to view programs in HD but you still can use the composite output to view SD programs or HD programs down converted to 480i. Remember digital cable channels can be SD or HD. And QAM unencrypted channels can only be directly received by a TV that has a ATSC/QAM tuner. Many of them only have an ATSC tuner. -- Bill R.
